When Did I Go Wrong?

Chapter 4

Hunk stared at the mate mark in absolute disbelief. "Did you guys mark each other? Oh my god, Lance!" he said disappointedly, pulling away from his hold on Lance and pinching the bridge of his nose.

Lance touched his marked scent gland, wincing at the sensitivity. He'd really fucked up this time. "I-" he started, but he was at a loss for words. He didn't know what to say, or what to do.

Suddenly his chest got another sharp pain, he hissed in pain, gripping his chest. "I have to go check on him Hunk." he said worriedly, standing up from his position on the floor. He opened the door, "You can scold me later.. Shiro will have my head anyways." he said with a nervous tone.

Lance basically ran back to his and Keith's dorm, knocking on the door and then slowly opening it. "Keith..?" he spoke, looking around the room, he didn't see him. He furrowed his brows in confusion and walked inside, shutting the door behind him.

Keith was in the bathroom, staring at the mate mark on his neck. It was so sensitive and every time he touched it, waves of pain shot through his body. He trembled in fear and pain, tears rushing down his face. That wasn't the only reason he started crying though. He knew that Lance didn't like him, and he realized how fucked up he made things for his best friend. Technically, he knew that he couldn't have made Lance mark him, but he convinced himself that it was his fault.

Lance heard the soft crying, going towards the bathroom door, he knocked gently. "Keith..?" he asked again, gentle and caring in his tone. "Can I come in? I'm sorry for leaving.. I just needed a minute." he said honestly, feeling absolutely terrible he had left Keith by himself.

Since they were now bonded, Keith could tell Lance was telling the truth, so he wiped his tears and opened the door. "I'm so sorry.. I never should have tried to go along with you guys to the bar.. I knew full well I was in heat I- just thought suppressants would help." he said quickly, trying to explain himself.

Lance shook his head immediately, "No.. Keith, it's okay. I don't expect you to explain yourself.. I'm just.. sorry. I feel like I used you in a way I can never take back." he said, feeling the guilt sink in his chest and every fiber of his body.

As Keith heard Lance's guilt, and felt it, he immediately went over to hug him. "I-it's okay.. I get it, you only wanted to help.." he said softly, running his fingers through his hair. "I just.. want you to know that I really care about you. I talked to Shiro and.. I think I need to get plan B." he said softly, pulling away. He looked into Lance's eyes, trying to figure out how he felt about his words.

Lance widened his eyes, of course Keith was smart enough to figure out they didn't use protection. He was also smart enough to think of plan B, which Lance himself hadn't even thought about. "R-right.. uh- I'll go get it for you okay? Just, lay down and relax while I'm gone. I'm sure you don't feel the best right now." he said, giving a small comforting smile.

Keith felt his cheeks turn pink at Lance's affection, but he caught up with himself and nodded. "Okay.. sounds good to me." he said softly. He slowly walked to his bed, trying not to walk too fast or even sit down quickly. He knew, for his own sake, that he had to be slow as to not hurt himself from the rough week he'd been through.

Lance smiled softly, heart skipping a beat. He turned to walk out of their dorm. "I'll be back soon." he said with a small smile, grabbing his jacket to go outside. He was worried plan B wouldn't work. Of course in most cases it did, but sometimes it didn't, and the way their life had gone so far, Lance was already sure it wouldn't. They would be the people to be in one of those circumstances out of everyone.

"Alright, be safe." Keith said with kindness, rolling over onto his side and closing his eyes. He was still sore and he didn't want to deal with the pain right now. What else was he supposed to do? He tried to block everything out of his mind and body to sleep.
