chapter 43: ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
"oh kids, you're home already! jihyun, honey, how's your ankle? can you walk fine now?" mrs park stands up to greet her children at the front door. they just got back from the hospital where jihyun had just gotten her cast removed.
jihyun was extremely relieved after almost two months of having to depend on crutches. she was still mostly limping but it was definitely getting better. the doctor said that it'd probably be about a week or less until she gets to fully walk properly and jihyun couldn't wait for it.
"i'm fine. i've been able to walk without crutches before this but now i'm just gonna have to get used to walking without the cast on." she stops infront of her mother, seonghwa leaving her side to go upstairs into his room.
"that's good. be careful, okay? you have your finals soon and you need to be in your best condition for it. i'm sure you're prepared for it already but we don't want you getting distracted if you're sick or hurt, okay?" her mother rests a hand on the girl's shoulder, smiling at her.
jihyun awkwardly smiles back. "okay. thank you, mother." she says before making her way up to her room, holding onto the railings to support herself as she climbs up the stairs. a few maids had asked her if she needed help but she declined saying that she needed practice.
it's true, she's going to be sitting for her finals soon and honestly, she's confident. she has always been one of the top students and though finals aren't until slightly over a month, she's prepared. she studied like crazy because she didn't want her father to nag her.
she thinks about how fast the time had passed. right after finals, she'll be graduating with her friends and after that they'll part ways, no more seeing each other's annoying faces almost every day.
it felt like it was just yesterday that she got to sit with them during lunch for the first time ever. who would've thought a simple history project would gain her a group of true friends that stuck by her through thick and thin?
a month and a few days will pass in a blink and she's so not ready. she's not ready to separate with her best friends, she's not ready to face the actual world, she's not ready to take over park industries and she most likely won't be ready for what her father has in plan for her.
a ring of her phone snaps her out of her deep thoughts. she plops down onto her bed, taking out her phone to see the caller id.
idiotsan ‼️🥴💗 would like to FaceTime...
slide to answer
she answered the call, immediately sticking her tongue out playfully when she sees his face. "how's my best friend doing?" san asks her, smiling, revealing his adorable dimples.
"not too bad. i can't finally scratch my feet, oh god," she sighs in relief, flipping her camera to show her foot that now had no cast. "ew ji, gross." he fakes a gagging expression, before laughing and telling her that he was kidding.
"okay but we can go back to our shenanigans baby! no more holding myself back from sneaking up behind seonghwa hyung at the cafe and scaring him because my best friend was on crutches and begged for me not to have fun without her," he dramatically catches his breath from his long sentence, which if he wasn't dumb, which he is, he could've split it up a bit so as to not lose his breath.
"well, what did you expect? i couldn't move around much and i wasn't gonna watch you have fun if i couldn't," she pouts. san laughs at this, wanting to just pinch her cheeks right at that moment.
the two talked for about an hour or so, laughing about random stories they each had to tell, spilling some tea, and thinking back to some of their most precious moments together. this was how their facetimes usually were.
"alright ji, i gotta go. eomma wants me to come down for dinner. rest well, okay? i'll text you later. love ya," his heart breaks knowing that he can only say that as a best friend as of now.
"okay, san, love you too." she smiles at him, waving at the camera before ending the call. she sighs and falls back on her bed.
for the past months, jihyun and san got even closer, the two acknowledging the feelings that they have for each other but of course, deciding to wait until after finals.
yeosang, on the other hand, saw it all coming. he knew he'd eventually lose jihyun to san. he still loves jihyun like how he did the first time he asked her out, if not, more. but seeing how she's obviously leaning closer to san, he knew he'd have to get over her soon, so he wouldn't be too heartbroken when jihyun actually announces that her choice is san.
