chapter 62: ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
"w–wow, ji. y–you look amazing." san breathes out, not believing the sight in front of him. jihyun had always managed to take his breath away but tonight, she was especially dazzling.
"dude, close your mouth, your jaw's gonna hurt if you stay like that." seonghwa teases the younger boy, snapping him back into reality. the younger immediately does as he's told, embarrassed.
"oh my, you don't look too bad yourself, dear best friend." jihyun compliments him, unconsciously calling him her best friend, forgetting that they've both made it official already. the boy was looking dashing in his maroon suit that he had personally picked out so that he could be matching with jihyun.
"boyfriend," he corrects her, taking a step closer to the girl. "i'm your boyfriend." jihyun gasps lightly, eyes widening. "oh yea. forgot about that," she chuckles awkwardly, slipping her hand out of seonghwa's arm and replacing it with san.
"come on, you two. picture time!" he takes out his phone from his pocket and tells the two to pose as he snaps a million photos. jihyun rolls her eyes playfully at her brother's parent-like antics, waiting for him to tell them to stop posing and make their way to school already.
he has been such a great brother to her that she honestly wouldn't know what it would've been like if they hadn't gotten close. "my baby sister really is all grown up now." he wipes a fake tear, pulling her into another hug but this time longer as he gently pats her head.
"oppa, i'm gonna be late if you don't let go now." she whines, tapping his arm profusely to make him let go and he does. "take care of her, san. if anything happens, you're dead." he stares san down with a straight face before it immediately changes to a happy face. "just kidding, i trust you with her. bring her back before midnight, yeah? have fun, kiddos." he smacks san on the shoulders before going back into the house.
san then turns to jihyun, a dimpled smile on his face. "shall we get going now, princess?"
-
the couple walked into the gym-turned-ball room, looking around in awe as the whole place had been decorated beautifully and had the right vibes. it was completely different from the school dance last year.
"wow, they must've known how bad last year's dance was, huh? it's so much better this time." san says, looking around. jihyun nods, agreeing with him as they walk with linked arms towards their group of friends at the other side of the hall.
"jisan! you guys are finally here! let's go get a group photo taken!" yunho screams over the music. "jisan?" san chuckles at the ship name yunho just made for him and jihyun.
"yeah, jisan. i was gonna call you guys separately like jiji and san but since you two are like a thing now i thought jisan would be a great ship name." yunho explains proudly. "that's dumb. hyunsan sounds way better," mingi says in a childish tone before the two giants proceeded to squabble over which one sounded better.
"look, can we all just collectively agree that san has a boring ass name to use for ship names?" yeosang shuts down the two. "yeah, san totally has a boring ass name. now let's get our group shot now!" wooyoung pushes them all towards the photo booth.
"wait!" an all-too-familiar voice yells and bumps into the group to join in. "jongho! what are you doing here?" san asks in surprise when he sees that it was jongho.
"i snuck in. you're graduating so i gotta spend as much time as i can with you guys, yknow." he grins at his older friends before instructing them all to smile for the camera.
"okay but that doesn't mean you can just sneak into the seniors only graduation prom. it's specifically for the graduating class only," wooyoung says matter-of-factly as they all walk away from the photo booth. "not gonna let you guys have fun without me." jongho states flatly before running over to jihyun's side.
"noona you look great! and you're matching with san!" he nudges her arm, smirking at her while wiggling his eyebrows. jihyun jokingly pushes him away and they all settle down at a table.
not even halfway through the night and yunho and mingi had already lost their minds on the dance floor despite the fact that the songs played were mostly slow songs. the two had gotten drunk off of the punch that was served and they were now dancing with each other, complaining about their single asses.
jongho was busy talking to some of the other seniors he was friends with, yeosang and wooyoung were just in their own conversations at the table while san and jihyun had joined the chaotic duo on the dance floor, except, they're actually slow dancing.
jihyun and san talked as they danced with each other but she doesn't miss the glances yeosang throws them every once in a while. she settles her gaze on him and san turns back to look at where she's looking. "do you mind if i go talk to him for a while?" she asks san. "no, not at all. go talk to him. i'll be here messing around with yunho and mingi if you need me." he winks at her before making his way to the said two.
she walks over to the table cautiously and stops in front of yeosang and wooyoung who seemed to have cut their conversation short when they saw the girl approaching. "hey, can i borrow yeosang for a bit?" she asks wooyoung and wooyoung immediately nods his head. "yeah, of course. he's all yours."
she mumbles a quiet but audible thanks before pointing towards the direction of the school garden, gesturing at yeosang that she wants to talk outside. she walks ahead and he quietly follows. not long later, they reach the garden and they both sat down on a wooden bench in the middle of the garden.
she turns to yeosang and he smiles at her. "what do you want to talk about? you look beautiful tonight, by the way." he compliments. "you don't look too bad yourself." she replies before clearing her throat to prepare for her next words.
"i just want to say thank you for everything." she starts off. "thank you for being the best boyfriend i ever had, thank you for the memories we made as lovers, thank you for what you did just so san and i could be together. you deserve the whole world and if i could, i would give it to you. you're such an amazing person with an even more amazing personality and any girl would be lucky to even be in your presence itself. you'll find someone, alright? maybe not as soon as you want it to be but one day you will. and i'll be there to witness it because we're all still gonna be best friends! we'll stay best friends forever, okay?" she throws her arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug that even he has trouble breathing.
when she lets go, he almost laughs at how the girl's eyes are already teary just from her little speech. "of course, ji. we'll all stay best friends until we're grey and old." he assures her, smiling comfortingly.
"now let's get back inside, shall we? san is probably waiting to have a dance with you right now." he stands up, offering a hand and she happily takes it, swinging it as they walk back into the hall together.
