chapter 58:
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄

hell period was finally over. the class cheered as they walked out of the classroom. they had just finished the last paper for their finals and it surely feels like a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders. the boys grabbed their bags, discussing their answers outside the class before their teacher had shooed them off, saying that they weren't allowed to loiter in school and that they should head home now.

the boys quickly walked out of school, wanting to quickly talk about the paper. they walked past the school gates, immediately turning towards the direction of the hospital as they have been used to visiting jihyun after school.

"dudes, can you believe we're like done done with finals? like, who would've thought i could make it past finals period without a mental breakdown every two hours every day. we're finally free!" mingi cheers, nudging yunho and wooyoung who were walking beside him.

"mingi stop it, you're gonna push me off the sidewalk if you continue that," wooyoung walks ahead to avoid walking next to the tall, hyper boy. "well good riddance then, why wait for fate when i can just push you onto the road now?" the taller taunts, advancing closer to wooyoung. he teases the shorter by acting like he wants to really push him onto the road, resulting in the two 5-year-olds-stuck-in-teenage-bodies chasing each other on the sidewalk while the rest of the boys watch in amusement.

"okay but is no one gonna ask why mingi said fate when he talked about wooyoung getting run over? is that boy really praying for wooyoung to be run over?" yunho questions with a fake dramatic gasp. "not even gonna ask because mingi has some crazy stuff in his head all the time," yeosang states, smiling adoringly at the sight of his friends playing around.

san chuckles too when yunho ends up joining the two in their unplanned tag game. san and yeosang stays behind, keeping their normal walking pace as they watch their friends.

"hey, dude. you really didn't have to call off the wedding for me, you know?" san speaks up, gaining yeosang's attention as the latter tears his gaze off of his friends. "i wasn't being rational when i got mad at you. i was just jealous. i've liked her even before you two got together and to see that you might get her again right in front of me, i don't know, i didn't like that, i guess. don't get me wrong, though, i had completely zero intentions of breaking you guys apart when you were together. i like jihyun but i wouldn't do that to my own best friends," san admits.

"that's exactly the reason why i'd wholeheartedly give her up for you, san. i know you're an amazing person who would be willing do anything to make your friends happy and i want jihyun to be happy too. she's been through so, so much and the last thing she needs is someone like me. i'd only cause her more pain if i agreed to the marriage." he says, not looking at san and keeping his gaze to the front where yunho, mingi and wooyoung had stopped fooling around and were just walking while they discussed things.

"i see the way she looks at you. it's the same one she used to give me when we were together. it's you, san. it's you who she wants, not me. and i won't force her to love me again because it's your story now. i'm not going to interfere. you deserve her so much more and you're going to make her the happiest girl ever. i trust you on that," yeosang turns his head to look at san who is speechless at the moment.

"but if you break her heart, i will hunt you down to the ends of the earth, got it?" he narrows his eyes at the younger. san widens his eyes in surprise at the sudden attitude change before nodding aggressively. "yes, sir." he salutes to yeosang and yeosang chuckles, slapping san's back.

"that's good. go get her, lover boy." yeosang smirks at san when they stop in front the hospital entrance. san smiles at his friend, swinging an arm over his shoulder as they happily walk into the hospital together.

yeosang smiles sadly, one that san doesn't notice. it took a lot in yeosang to simply give up the love of his life but if it meant that his friends are happy, he'd do it any day. sure, he's still madly in love with jihyun. but he knows how much better off she'd be with san and he believes that time will heal his heart eventually.

-

"jiji! how are you doing?" wooyoung exclaims as they all enter her ward. seonghwa and hongjoong have not dropped by yet that day since it was pretty early in the afternoon and they knew the girl had to take her finals in her ward room.

"pretty good, i'd say. i can take deep breaths now and it doesn't even hurt that much! how was the paper today?" she asks them as they make themselves comfortable in her ward.

"not to brag but like i probably aced that last paper. it was so easy i had like half an hour left before the end of the paper." mingi makes a smug expression, contradictory to what he said about not wanting to brag.

jihyun chuckles at this while the boys groan as they hear him talk about it as if he hadn't been doing so ever since they left school. "that's good, mingi. i hope we all get good results for this, yea?"

"yeabooooiii!" san starts hitting the woah and the other boys join in, and without them knowing, they ended up starting a random tiktok dance spree in the ward, causing a nurse, who intended to enter, to immediately leave as confusion and slight concern overtook her facial features.

the boys didn't notice, though, as they continued with their shenanigans while jihyun only watches, now being able to laugh more freely since the pain in her ribs had already subsided.
