CHAPTER 8
"Learning makes a good man better and a bad man worse."
It was another three weeks before Beathen heard anything from Instructor Attar about continuing training with charms. When he was called to the armory Beathen half expected to be told he could no longer use charms or worse. Being taken into the back area of the armory to talk to Attar didn't help his trepidation any.
"Mr. Faulkner I have news about your special circumstances. I apologize that it took so long to get back to you. The information took longer to obtain than I initially thought. Now I have several charms for you to use, most of them are basic. There are two that we will use last as they are more combat-oriented and we need to see how your body reacts to the others first." Attar educated him.
"So this is something that has happened before? Is it dangerous to take the charm into myself?" asked Beathen.
"From the research I was able to compile it looks like this has happened several times in our past. From all the accounts the number of charms you can use is unlimited like anyone else. The main difference is that until you reach your body's capacity you need to make sure that the charms you use are the ones you can't live without. Until the cap is hit, your body will absorb any charm you try to use. The three basic ones you will start with are the Eyes of Thoth, Tongue of Thoth, and Sight of Odin. You already know about the uses of the first two. The Sight of Odin charm allows you to see in most visual spectrums: infrared, night vision, and many forms of invisibility are just some of the ways to use this charm." said Instructor Attar.
Beathen grabbed the first charm, the Tongue of Thoth, and focused on it the same way he had previously done. The burning sensation wasn't as pronounced as the first time and the location was on his chest this time. After a few seconds he placed the charm on the table.
"តើអ្នកយល់ពីខ្ញុំ? {Do you understand me?}" asked Attar.
"បាទភាសានេះគឺជាអ្វីដែល? {Yes, what language is this?}" asked Beathen.
"It's called Khmer, spoken in Cambodia and several other nations in that region. Дали ме разбираш сега? {Do you understand me now?}" Attar continued.
" Да, тоа што јазикот е оваа? {Yes, what language is this one?}" Beathen replied exitedly.
"This is Macedonian; now let's test out the other two. Before you add these, keep up the Tongue and activate all three at the same time." he instructed.
Beathen took both of the charms at the same time and began pushing his energy into them while trying to maintain the one he already had active. He began to feel the burning sensation near the same spot the Tongue charm had made its mark as well as one on his left rib cage. He began to look around the room as he felt the charms finish activating. Seeing in multiple spectrums at once was more disorienting than he had expected. As he looked all over the room his head began to swim with the overabundance of stimuli. Closing his eyes for a few seconds helped him regain control and abate the nausea that almost overcame him. Slowly he opened his eyes; everything was still in multiple spectrums but was a little more bearable. Almost as if his body was remembering how to use these abilities he had forgotten.
He began to make out sigils along the walls, recognizing them as protection symbols Beathen looked at Elham Attar and the strangest thing happened. The man he had met stood before him plain as day, but surrounding him was a thick black smoke. It didn't obscure him in any way but it seemed to permeate every pore of his body. That must be his aura Beathen thought. But what are those red slashes all over him, they almost look like rips in his soul.
