CHAPTER 14
"A tribulation is better than a hundred warnings."
"Have all the ambush units reported back yet?" asked Ms. Wakahisa.
"All but one ma'am. The last report was that Beathen Faulkner was in the recon unit and they were moving to intercept. That was the last we heard from them. All other teams have reported to their individual safe houses." answered her assistant.
"So they are most likely dead and he is in the wind. I was afraid he would be sent to the smallest ambush force. No matter, we need the others for the upcoming ceremony anyway. Assemble a team to tail Mr. Faulkner and his group back to their Chapter House. We still have much to do." ordered Ms. Wakahisa.
"Yes ma'am. Some of the non-essential personnel that would fit may be: one of the ogres, few a Djinn, a few Fae, and one or two Púca. Do you think that would be sufficient?" asked the assistant.
"No, at least twenty. Make sure they know that this is supposed to be as covert as possible. If they can't do that they are to breach the remaining Chapter House by any means necessary!" she answered.
...
"No, she's just a little worse for wear...... Nothing a night in the sick bay won't take care of..... Wait, why can't we finish our sweep? We just got here...... Both teams haven't reported in?..... If that's the case we're going to hit the armory here and head back..... If what you say is true, we need everything we can." Ruaraidh said, hanging up the radio mic.
"Are you sure you're going to be ok out here?" Beathen asked Natsumi.
"It was just shock before. I'm fine now, besides you know how easy it is for a Djinn to sneak up on you." she replied.
"Agh she's right Beathen we need to get moving. Oh, and this time make sure your rifle charms are active. You might actually do something useful this time." Ruaraidh said laughing at his own joke.
Beathen rolled his eyes and the pair headed back into the Chapter House. Picking his rifle back up Beathen activated all the charms and reloaded both the clip and the grenade round. The two of them quickly triple-checked the two bodies and began clearing the main floor. One by one they went through all the rooms of the ransacked Chapter House; slowly accounting for all the chapter members with each door they opened. The armory was thankfully sealed when they made their way to it.
"Shouldn't we start grabbing stuff and get out of here?" Beathen whispered.
"Not just yet, once the rest of the place is clear. I'd rather not get ambushed with a bunch o' crap in my hands." answered Ruaraidh.
A half hour later they accounted for most of the chapter's members. There was one missing member that worried both of them, the resident Reaper. Even if the Reaper did die in the attack, there should be a body. "Reapers are like Spetsnaz crossed with Delta Force, before you add in all the magikal charms and spells they have. Someone like that would make an immense impact in any battle." Beathen questioned aloud. "But where is he?"
Ruaraidh shrugged warily.
They didn't find any other intruders alive, though there was plenty of evidence that several different species were present during the first attack on the House. After grabbing several samples of the different species for evidence, they head back to the armory.
"Alright stand back, the safety measures were most likely activated." Ruaraidh warned as he moved to open the vault door to the armory. They both stood, weapons ready, waiting for the vault door to swing open enough to enter. Before it was barely open wide enough for a child to squeeze, in they were both shocked as the body of a Púca flew out of the vault hitting Ruaraidh in the face. Before Beathen could identify where the attack was coming from in the vault, he felt a blade on his neck.
