the beach day couldn't have come quick enough. by the time that jungkook could get out of bed early that saturday morning and finally get to taehyungs house, the boy was already half way done with a bottle of sunscreen and yelling down the driveway about how much of a slowpoke he was.

"it's 7:30 am give me a break." the ravenette got out of his jeep and met the boy at the front door. there was a cooler at his feet and a few big bags probably packed full of towels, blankets, and other stuff taehyung thought they would need. "my mom made sandwiches last night and she cut them in squares, not triangles, she remembered what you said last time." he said.

"god i love her." jungkook picked up the cooler and as if on instinct he leaned closer to taehyung, only stopping to realize what he was doing, "oh, uh..s-sorry." he stumbled over his words, cheeks turning pink and wondering why he was about to kiss the boy.

taehyung just shook his head and busied himself with picking up the bags, "no no, it's fine, let's just go."

the two boys probably resembled each other more then usual, blushing cheeks and rapidly beating hearts as they walked towards the jeep quickly and tried to avoid the others eyes. once they were finally in the car, jungkook awkwardly cleared his throat and taehyung just started playing with the radio buttons.

"we're picking up jimin hyung and hobi hyung." jungkook said as he started to pull out of the drive way and turn onto the street, "namjoon and jin will get yoongi and i'm pretty sure they're packing more food and stuff."

taehyung nodded and leaned back in his seat once he found a good station for them to listen to. "i'm excited." he said. they don't go to the beach often since it's quite a drive from the city, it usually takes up most of the day and they're usually too lazy to plan something like this. "good." the younger smiled, pleased with the words from the brunette and the awkwardness from before seemed to lessen.

luckily it didn't come back the entire ride, not when they both started to sing to a girl group song and not when jungkook got a little more comfortable and may have repeatedly smacked taehyungs thigh in a fit of giggles the way he did every time the older boy told a lame joke. they didn't even stop acting like they normally did after picking up their two friends, who simply joined in on the singing and goofing.

it was how things should be, how they needed to be right now.

"hey tae, did your mom make us anything?" jimin asked. they've been on the road for a while and at some point met up with the others, namjoon following behind the jeep. it didn't matter how old they got, they were still little boys when it came to their friends parents making them snacks during play dates.

taehyung smiled proudly from the front seat and turned around so he could face the other two, "and guess what."

"are they squares." hobi asked before the brunette could even tell them.

he didn't mind of course, and the bright grin gave it away as he nodded and turned back around to face the front.

jungkook was just listening, one hand on the wheel while his other elbow rested on the window. there was a small smile on his face. "what are you thinking about." taehyung seemed to notice how quiet he became.

the other two in the back were doing their own thing, not even listening to the ones in front seats. jungkook glanced over at the brunette and barely shook his head, "nothing, don't worry." he said. he's not even sure what he was thinking about at the moment.

"okay." taehyung nodded also, but his eyes still watched the younger who was now intently staring at the road ahead of him. his jaw was tight, and that smile seemed to shrink despite how hard he tried to keep it there. eventually jungkook gave up, and he just bit on his bottom lip instead.

taehyung frowned, not really sure what to do and already being shit at comforting people, it's harder when they don't even talk to you about it. he ignored the pang in his chest, wondering if this is how it's gonna be now. where the younger doesn't talk to him the way they did when they were together.

you brought it up. he couldn't help but think it. maybe things would be the same if he didn't mention anything about breaking up. of course jungkook would do whatever the brunette wanted, despite the hurt it would cause him. he'd do anything for taehyung, and that's exactly why this needed to happen. jungkook needed to realize that's now how relationships work, it can't all be about one person.

suddenly they were parked, and they could smell the ocean through the open jeep doors. taehyung didn't realize he spaced out that much, until looking and seeing that everyone got out and was already grabbing things to carry down to the beach.

he jumped out from the passengers side and closed the door, hearing the click from the lock as jungkook hit the button on his key fob. the others were already walking towards the wooden stairs down to the sand. taehyung clutched onto his bag and jogged to catch up.

"it looks so nice!" jimin grinned. there was a bounce in his step as they neared the water and looked for a perfect spot to set up. not many others were there today, lucky for them.

namjoon called from behind, "over there!" he was standing at the top of the stairs, jin and yoongi beside him, and he pointed over to their right where a smooth bank of sand stood. it was a perfect distance to still be close but also far away in case the tide rose.

the boys all dropped their bags and coolers, softly cushioned by the sand. jimin and hobi were in charge of laying out the blanket for them all the sit, unless they wanted to sit in a lawn chair that was being set out by jin. taehyung was pulling out the beach bag his mom packed for them, and of course it consisted of many buckets and colorful tools to play in the sand. "taehyung, how old does your mom think we-"

yoongi was cut off by an excited scream. it was jimin who happily abandoned his friend and the blanket, just to run off and grab one of the bucket and the brunettes hand, "build a sandcastle with me tae! we can be the kings!"

"apparently eight years old." hoseok grumbled as he patted out the stretched corners of the blanket on his own, setting their shoes on the ends so the wind didn't blow it up and away.

"they always build sandcastles." jungkook said. he was busy with his head in the cooler, yoongi was already asking for a beer but he got a square-cut sandwich instead. "there's going to be a moat and everything." he continued to talk while pulling out some snacks, the others just listening to the youngest speak about his two closest friends, "i still don't know how they manage the drawbridge."

no one said anything after that, they just sat down in a chair or on the blanket and enjoyed the ocean breeze and loud laughter that of course was coming from jimin. at one point he did yell over at the ravenette once his presence was needed to be the knight of their castle. "at least i'm not the clown this time that has to juggle." jungkook said.

"with the heart eyes you keep making at tae, of course you're the clown." jin said with a playful smile. it was just a tease, and jungkook actually shook his head with a laugh, but still threw his hyung the bird as he got up from the chair and walked over to the two boys.

he was sitting on his heels, hands rested on those exposed thighs. the baby blue swim trunks he wore sat nice against the honey skin bare to the sun to soak up. jungkook pulled out his phone from his pocket, opening the camera and stopping a few steps away from him. "hey taehyung, smile." he said.

taehyung looked up and his eyes squinted, maybe from the sun shining down on his face or maybe just from the way he was smiling so wide. either way, it made for a perfect picture — just his favorite boy sitting there in the sand, a cute castle beside him and wide ocean spread behind him. jungkook had to remind himself to make that his home screen later on.
