that friday night was pretty uneventful. they haven't moved from the kitchen table since that afternoon and there didn't seem to be an interest in changing that.
"i'm going to have to start charging you soon." jin said. he handed the young boy another glass of champagne.
jungkook just smiled innocently and held the glass in the air, "i pay with the love in my heart for you." he said before nearly downing half of it in one go.
"how's the response?" it was namjoon who asked. he came down from his shared bedroom and asked their guest, who had nearly become a permanent resident this past week.
jungkook just shrugged and mindlessly watched the liquid swish around the glass as he tilted it randomly about. "i haven't looked. i don't really care what anyone has to say." it was true. after posting the video, he had no interest in reading the comments or opening his dms. there was no want to look further into what he wished never had to happen.
when taehyung left that night, after they filmed the video, jungkook doesn't really remember what happened. there were more tears and maybe a few knuckles met the wall, but that was just a stress relief method.
what bothered him most was seeing the posts. watching the brunette hang out with someone else, and knowing he was having a good time, while jungkook just felt miserable.
it's like he was stuck. there was a war inside his mind between the happiness he felt for the person that meant most to him, and the anger that lay underneath it all, just waiting to burst and wonder why things had to be this way. "why is he too busy to see me but he can be with jimin all week?" it was the alcohol that had jungkook finally saying what's been bothering him.
namjoon and jin both didn't need to ask what he was talking about. it was obviously taehyung, and it was obviously the way he's been more active on social media. "that's how he's coping kook," namjoon said, "you take breaks and he seems to busy himself to avoid thinking about it."
jungkook shrugged, "he seems fine."
"have you tried talking to him?" jin asked. there was silence following, and the couple watched their sad friend just rub his eyes roughly and shake his head. "i feel stupid." he admitted in the end.
"if i'm being honest," namjoon started to say before his boyfriend cut him off. "you always are." jin had said.
the tall male just rolled his eyes and continued to speak, "this barely seems like a permanent thing. honestly this may be the most mature thing i've seen you do kook, taking a break to let him find himself and figure out what he wants." namjoon spoke quietly, hoping some of what he said was getting through to the youngest.
"bro i have no patience, i want him to want me back now." the ravenette was pouting and laying his forehead against the wooden table.
the other two simply watched with a mix of sadness but also mild annoyance. this kid needed to get out of their kitchen and go do something about this. "jungkook," jin said, there would be no more babying, there's been a week for that and now it's over, "you need to get off your ass."
his head picked up quickly, the same pout only sticking out more. "jin hyung don't yell at me." jungkook was a little tipsy and confused that he was being reprimanded and not coddled.
"get off your ass." his hyung repeated.
jungkook stood up.
"now go out that door and quit moping around." jin was being very strict, and all the younger did was nod quickly and listen to everything he was suddenly being told. "you guys may have broken up, but taehyung didn't kick you out of his life. stop creating a space between you two."
that's all he needed to seem to hear, because jungkook pushed away his chair and saluted his hyungs before following their orders and going straight for the front door. he was stumbling a bit, nearly tripping over the few steps on the sidewalk to the driveway but he managed to get his footing and make his way down the street.
"should we really let him out while he's drunk?" namjoon asked. they just saw the boy stumble out and not even take his coat or backpack. that man was on a mission.
"i took his keys, he'll be fine." jin reassured.
and he would be fine, because jungkook knew his way around this city like the back of his hands. no matter how much he drank he seemed to know which way to wander and where to go so he could spend the few bills of cash in his pocket on some greasy fast food.
it luckily stayed warm all the way, even up the long street and the somewhat difficult climb over the gate. jungkook tried to remember if his driveway was always this long — but soon enough he was at the front door, too conscious to knock or ring the doorbell and instead settling for a quick text.
only seconds later the front door was flying open and taehyung stood there with a wide eyes and a messy head of hair. "oh my god i found the kit, how bad is it—"
whatever ramble of questions the brunette spewed was lost to the younger, his head was full of love and hands full of fast food that needed to be in his belly now. jungkook just drunkenly smiled at seeing the boy finally and covered his mouth with his hands. "why are you freaking out tae?"
taehyung blinking rapidly and ignored the thump of his heart after hearing his voice for so long. it's only been a week but it seemed to be much longer. he reached up to take jungkooks hand away from his lips, "you texted me that a sports utility van hit you on the way to get burgers."
"oh," jungkook said, "well there was no van, but i did get the burgers."
taehyung rolled his eyes and waited for his heart to slow to a normal rate. the smell of the fast food was inviting and so were those pretty dark orbs blinking at him, so taehyung took his hand and pulled him inside, "i'm dating a maniac." he said.
neither of them seemed to catch the slip up, one too drunk and busy smiling at the boy holding his hand and the other trying to relax his panicked thoughts thinking the younger was bleeding to death on his doorstep.
they finally made it upstairs to taehyungs bedroom, tiptoeing to make sure they didn't wake his mom. "why did you come so late?" it was almost 1 am.
"i missed you." jungkook said. he was already half way through a burger and didn't mind speaking with a mouthful. they had gotten quite comfortable with each other and eating habits didn't seem to bother them. taehyung still threw a napkin at him and scrunched his nose at the sight. "we could have just facetimed."
"nah, it's not nearly the same." jungkook spoke so casually, as if he wasn't so troubled this entire week. it was hard to talk about how you feel, the emotions racking your mind and chest and there doesn't seem to be the proper words to accurately express them — but it was never the case when he was finally with taehyung. the brunette was his comfort blanket, a safe space where his thoughts flowed freely and he speak as he pleased without a second guess.
taehyung just smiled small, playing with a french fry and thanking the night for hiding the blush on his cheeks.
and silence ensued. the two boys sat on the olders bed, no lights and only a soft glow from a nightlight to show them their food. maybe they were more similar then they thought, both stealing glances at the other occasionally, both wondering what was on the others mind, and both finally feeling a little better now that they say so close with an apparent lack of space that seemed to want to divide them.
