Magnus had never thought that he would be back here, and definitely not in the teachers' lounge. He had been going places. Varsity basketball. It had been a dream come true. Too bad it shattered and now he had to take a coaching job at his old high school just to get by.
Sipping from the brown liquid that was supposed to be coffee, he scanned the room. A lot of his old teachers were still there. Not that any actually had greeted him yet. But he hadn't expected that anyway. He hadn't been a good student at all. Being to caught up in basketball to do his homework didn't make him popular with the teachers but they let it slide because of his skills on the court. Of course, now that kind of bit him in the ass, since his basket carrier had gone down the drain.
When he suddenly noticed a recognizable laughter, he could feel the anxiety building in his gut. Slowly he turned towards the sound, afraid of what he knew he was going to see. And there he was. Tall, dark hair that seemed a bit uncontrollable, Hazel eyes and the body of a god. Magnus could barely breath around the lump that had formed in his throat. When those eyes zeroed in on him, and the laughing stopped, Magnus almost wished he would disappear into thin air. He had never thought Alexander Lightwood would have stayed in this city. Not in a million years. Or else he wouldn't have come back.
Alec stared at the Asian guy next to the coffee machine.
Please tell me I'm hallucinating...
He knew he had been laughing and enjoying himself a second ago but right now he really couldn't remember what the conversation had been about. Not when Magnus Bane suddenly stood in this room. His safe haven. Without removing the scowl he impaled Magnus with, he stood up and marched straight towards him. Debating on whether he should hit him, bash his head against a wall or act professional.
"Alexander..."
"Don't!... Do not use that name!... Just don't..."
Magnus drew in a deep breath, feeling scolded by the tone Alec had used at him.
"Alec... I didn't know you would be here..."
"Clearly not... What the hell are you doing here?"
"I'm... um.. the new coach..."
The annoyed huff Alec let out almost made Magnus take a step back. He knew he deserved every bit of anger and hate Alec could aim at him.
"Alec please... can we talk?"
Without answering Alec shook his head in disbelief. How the hell could Magnus stroll in here thinking they could talk? TALK? After what he had done. Alec turned around on his heal and marched out into the hallway. He needed to get away from Magnus, before he actually would bash his head against a wall.
"Alec. Wait..."
Turning around to see Magnus jogging after him, made the hatred flair up inside.
"Are you fucking kidding me right now?! Why the hell would you follow me out here? You really think I would want to talk to you? Ever?"
Magnus looked around, terrified of making a scene.
"Alec could you lower you voice a bit?"
"Still afraid of what people think I see."
"No... but... I work here now. I think we need to talk about what happened... In private"
Alec crossed his arms across his chest.
"You want to talk about it? Sure. Where do we start? With the day you took my virginity or the day after that, where you locked me in one of these classrooms and left me there all night? Which one of those days do you want to talk about?!"
"I...I... um..."
Alec huffed and turned around heading for a classroom. At the same time the bell rang and the kids scattered inside. Magnus watched Alec's entire body language change when he entered the Classroom and became Mr. Lightwood. A genuine smile covering his face when one of the girls approached him to show a paper she had gotten a good grade on.
Magnus had always loved that side of Alec. He was incredible talented in school and he loved learning and tutoring, so of course he had become a teacher. It made perfect sence.
Forcing his eyes away from Alec, he stared at the paper in his hand. It said witch classes he had to approach to search for people to join the basketball team, he was going to build. Of course, Alec's class was the first on the list. With a sigh he made his way to the classroom.
"If you all turn to chapter 5, we can start be recapping what has happened to Filip since he has arrived in Hell."
A knock on the doorframe made Alec turn around, seeing Magnus standing there.
"Are you kidding me..."
Alec mumbled under his breath.
"I'm sorry to disturb, Mr. Lightwood. I'm here to talk to the class about joining the basket team."
"Alright. Class, close your books for a moment and then give Mr. bane you undivided attention."
Alec steeped away from the head of the class so Magnus could take the floor.
"Hi guys. My name is Magnus bane. I'm a former varsity basketball player, and I want to start a basketball team at this school. There will be tryouts next week and I hope to see a lot of you there. You're welcome to ask any questions you want."
A flood of hands shot up.
"Woaw. That is a lot of questions... Alright. You."
Magnus pointed to a girl in the front.
"Didn't you go to this school once?"
"Yes. Yes, I did. At the same time as you teacher over there, actually. Next question."
"Is it true you lost your spot on the varsity team because you got injured in a fight at a bar and broke your spine?"
Alec tried to hide his smile behind his hand. Acting like he was scratching his nose. Magnus looked at him for assistance but found no mercy.
"Well, I did lose my spot because of an injury, yes."
"Is it true that you were a homophobe and a gay basher in highschool?"
Trying to fight down the laugh that was building in the back of his throat when he saw how uncomfortable Magnus was, he stepped in front of the class. Even though he might have been enjoying Magnus' pain a little bit, he was a professional teacher.
"Class! Settle down! Those aren't appropriate questions."
"But sir, my dad said that he used to be a real dick... sorry jerk... in highschool. Especially to you."
"Jacob, that is all in the past and not worth mentioning now. People change. You all have done, or will once do something, that you are not proud of. The trick is to not let it define you."
Magnus looked at Alec with gratitude. He had felt cornered because he actually couldn't deny that it had been exactly what had happened back then. Although he was a bit surpriced that the students knew Alec was homosexual.
"They know...?"
Magnus whispered the question to Alec.
"yes, they know. There is no point in hiding your sexuality. Not if you are proud of who you are."
Alec's stare almost impaled Magnus. He knew exactly what he was hinting at and it hurt.
"Of course, we know. We have met his boyfriend too. He is really awesome."
A girl in front of the class looked at Magnus with an expresion that clearly stated that she was convinced he was a homophob. If she only knew why...
"You... you have a boyfriend?"
"yes, I do. Going on 5 years now."
Magnus tried not to let his disappointment show. He had never thought he would meet Alexander again, but now that he had, he missed him more than words could tell. If he only had been braver when they were kids...
