The flight home was nearly unbearable. He hated being away from Magnus, but there was thing that needed to be taken care off, before he could live his life happily ever after in New York city. Or more precisely, Brooklyn.

Alec sat in the back of the cap, glancing out the window. He wanted to take it all in. Every street, every building. Even though he was looking forward to his life with Magnus, he knew he would miss this place too. It was home. It would always be home. But wherever Magnus was, was his home too.

A single tear formed in the corner of his eye. Happiness was just around the corner. He had never though he would come this close.

Everything is just as It should be. I'm going to live with the man I love. And it's not like I won't ever come back. My parents and Izzy live here. I'll visit.

With a smile on his face, the single tear made its way over his cheek. It was much more a tear of joy for what to come, than anything else. He embraced his future, even though it would be hard to let go of the past.

The cap pulled up outside his building, and Alec paid the driver before getting out. Waiting for him outside, was Andrew. Alec had called him at the airport, letting him know when he would be home.

"Good to see you Alec, you seem really happy."

Andrew smiled and gave Alec a light hug.

"Thank you, Andrew. I really am happy."

"Good. Let me help you with that."

Andrew grabbed the suitcase from the car and began his walk up the stairs.

When they reached the apartment, Alec unlocked the door and opened it for Andrew, that made his way into the living room.

"so, what's the plan for you now?"

Andrew looked at Alec when he had placed the suitcase on the floor.

"Well, first of, I'm calling my landlord tonight. Then tomorrow I'll talk to the principal."

"I can't believe you are actually moving to New York. You hate big cities."

Alec chuckled.

"I can hardly believe it myself, but love changes a man."

   "I guess it does..."

"Sorry Andrew, I didn't mean to rub it in."

"Don't worry about it. If Lorenzo can't look past our differences, he doesn't deserve me, right?"

   "Exactly!"

....

Taking a deep, calming breath, Alec made his way to the principal's office. He dreaded this. He had never thought he would quit his job, but here he was. About to do just that. The cold metal beneath his fingers twitched slightly as he opened the door.

"Sir, do you have a minute?"

   "Alec, well of course."

The principal gestured towards the chair in front of his desk, and closed the laptop he was currently working on.

"What can I do for you?"

The man folded his hands and rested them at the desk, giving Alec his undivided attention. Alec had never had anything but respect for this man, even when he was a student here.

"Sir, I'm sad to do this, but I have to give you my two weeks' notice."

"I don't understand, are you not happy here?"

"Yes. Yes, I am. Very happy. I love my colleagues and the kids, but... I'm moving. It's... umm hard to explain, and might seem a bit fast, but I'm moving in with my boyfriend in New York."

"Wow. Congratulations dear boy. I wish you all the happiness. I'm sad to let you go, but if there is something I understand, its true love."

The man glanced towards the picture frame on his desk with a sly smile on his face. Alec knew it contained the picture of his wife that passed away last year.

"Thank you, sir. It means a lot to me."

"You know what? An old friend of mine works at NYU. Why don't I call him, and set up an interview? They would be lucky to have you."

"That would be amazing! But that is a college, and I'm just a highschool teacher... are you sure they would want to hire me?"

"Alec, you are one of the most gifted teachers I have ever seen. They would be fools not to hire you. And that is exactly what I'm going to write in my recommendation."

Alec left the office with a huge grin on his face. Getting to work at a college, that would be a dream come true. One he had never dared to follow. Not before he met Magnus, anyway.

As the bell rang, and the students began entering the classroom, Alec felt a light sting in his heart. Leaving his colleagues was one thing, but leaving these kids. The young people he had helped shape into young adults over the last couple of years... That was a whole other thing. It was hard to describe precisely how much a class full of teenagers could affect you.

"Settle down class. I have something I want to talk to you about."

Each student quickly found their seats and looked up at Alec. A wetness began covering his eyes, but he did his best to hide it.

"I can't tell you guys how much you mean to me, and I can only wish that on some level, you already know. Unfortunately, I have to leave you."

   Gasps sounded throughout the room.

"Another teacher will take over this class, and I hope you will treat him or her with the same respect you have treated me."

"Mr. Lightwood, why are you leaving?"

The girls voice was trembling and made it even more difficult for Alec not to shed a tear.

"I'm moving... it's just something I have to do... for me."

Not being able to tell them the exact reason why he left was difficult, but he knew Magnus wasn't out yet. Not In this town, so he couldn't say much.

   "We're gonna miss you..."

One of the boys spoke without raising his head. Alec knew that this particularly boy, always had trouble shoving emotions.

   "I'm gonna miss you too."

Alec squeezed the boy's shoulder with one hand.

"I'm going to miss you all."
