Chapter 5

Ok, so I said question, but it was more of a series of them.

Q1. How do you eat normal food? Does it help your hunger?

A1. It doesn't really help with our hunger, but it doesn't make us sick. We can eat it just fine, we just don't get nutrition from it. Its like eating candy. You don't really eat it to get full, but for the taste.

Q2. So how do you get your... food...

A2. By volunteers. People give blood all the time. It doesn't all go to the humans. We get about 50% of it. That way we don't have to hunt.

Q3. So how do you become a vampire?

A3. There are two kinds, as you probably know from all those silly books the humans write. Which has some truth to them, but not much. We have pure breeds, the ones that were born a vampire. And then there are the bitten. Since vampires and humans can't have babies, most mates will bite their partner so that they are both vampires, and then they can have a baby. And although the baby is considered a born vampire, they are not pure breeds. Most vampires can bite a human and turn them, but if the vampire isn't a pure breed, then the human isn't as likely to survive the transformation.

Q4. Ok, so you said mate. Like soul mate? Or what? How would you know? How would the human know?

A4. Ok, well we don't know exactly how it works, but when you see the mate, the vampire knows. Its like a sudden realization. You look at them, and you know that's who your meant to be with. Its not something you get confused about either. There is no maybe. You know for a fact that they are your mate. However, the human doesn't get that feeling. They don't see anything but a stranger. That's why it can be hard on a vampire with a human mate. They have to first get the human to like them, and pray the human accepts them. If not, it can break a vampire. But once the human accepts it, and is willing to be turned, they feel the same thing as the vampire. Once they're turned, they don't ever have to worry about doubt, because they know.

Q5. Ok, so is that what I am? Am I a mate? Because that would explain the whole love for a baby thing.

A5. ...yeah. I was just traveling with your parents to pass the time, and when you were born, I was in shock. And when your parents left, I knew that I couldn't live with out you.

" So that why you put the curse on me?"

"You say curse, but I see it more of a blessing. I got to be a part of your life. I got to be with you as you grew up. I didn't have to just pop up and get you use to me. You don't know how happy it made me, just to see you every once in a while. " I looked in his eyes, and I saw how happy he was. I do have to admit, it probably would have been a lot harder to earn my trust if not for the curse.

I mean, every month, I learned more about him. He was a guarantee in my life. When my parents would be at work, I would be pretty bored. And sometimes they had to work on days when we were suppose to spend quality time together. But with Dorian, every 13th, he would only spend time with me. There were times when I would see him working while I was suppose to be asleep, and the moment he saw me awake, he would stop his work to spend time with me. And as he would lead me back to bed, I would look back, and see the big pile of work.

How would I even be if I didn't have Dorian? It almost felt impossible to imagine life with out him around. As I said, we've been together for so long. We knew a lot about each other. Yeah, we didn't know details about our families, or of our jobs, or my school. But that was all superficial. We knew how the other liked coffee, we knew the others interest in books or movies. We knew those silly little habits, that we ourselves never realized we had, and the other would point it out. I know his loves, likes, and dislikes. I knew what type of person he was, and he knew me.

If I didn't know him, a lot of who I am wouldn't be me anymore.

I smiled and looked at Dorian,  taking a sip of my drink.

" so how does the curse thing work? Is there a way to break it?" I asked as I looked down at my mug. I knew what was about to happen. Que demanding and controlling voice(which was very appealing to the ears) in 3...2...1

" Blain. I know it's not the right thing to keep you under the curse. I know that, but you are not breaking the curse. I just told you that you are my mate. I need you. Don't even think about trying to take the curse off, because then I'll have to go for a different method, and I feel like the next option, you wouldn't like as much as this one."

Oh, he even added a threat. I knew there would be a response like this. He always got like this. He is naturally sweet and would do anything for me, but when it came to the curse, he hated that I didn't like it. If it ever broke, we wouldn't get to see each other. And trust me, the longer he goes without seeing me, the more panicked he gets. I'm pretty sure that second option means kidnapping me. I mean, he does that already(technically) but I think it would be more on a permanent manner.

"Calm down. I'm not planning on breaking it. I don't really care if the curse is there or not. Its not that bad to see you every month. But what if something happens, and it would be better for me to break the curse?"

" it's never safer for you to be away from me. You have to understand, I will always protect you. That's my role as your mate, and as a vampire." He said, his tone secure and certain. He was being over bearing, but I knew it would be like this.

"Ok, so change of subject since your being a downer, what do you think your mother wants you for?" Come to think of it, why hadn't I met his mother yet? I mean, I am his soul mate, if what he says is true. I should meet his mom.

" she probably wants to discuss you. She doesn't know who, but she has known of my mate for awhile. But I'm a little worried about it. She thinks I've met some beautiful vampire girl, and is expecting me to marry as soon as possible."
