"What do you want?" Gideon asks the moment he gets closer to me. His jaw locked in a hard line.
"To talk to you. Came here looking for you this morning but you weren't in. Please have a seat" I say and he obliges.
Before I could say anything else, he begins talking.
"I knew it would get to this. I knew you were gonna come back" he says and I shrug
"Take a look at this" I throw the newspaper on the table in front of him
"I'm guessing you've seen this already. What is the headline suppose to mean? And please cut to the chase"
"This is a bad idea Det-
"Its Theodetia for you" I say, cutting him
"Theodetia. This is a bad idea. You have everything already. Your kids. Job. Money. You got it all. Let the past be in the past and let this go"
"Well that is for me to decide. Now start talking."
He lets out a huge sigh before beginning to speak.
"Jace Stark hasn't been a topic for the last seven years. He disappeared and no one has heard from him. Apparently, what I said seven years ago was a lie. He didn't kill your father. I was paid to do what I did. Your father was into drug dealing. That's why your mom left him. Don't know why she never told you which apparently she didn't. Jace was only trying to protect him. To get his money clean so that if anything he wouldn't be found guilty"
"You little piece of shit!" I slam my hands on the table, earning a fee stares to which I don't give a damn.
"I know what I did was wrong and I regret it all. If I could go back, I'd make everything right. But I can't" he says, defeated. It doesn't faze me one bit.
My whole life has been a lie.
Gathering up courage, I ask the one question I know he has an answer to
"Where is he?" I ask with my eyes glazed over, tears threatening to spill but I hold them in.
"In jail"
