"are you sure your okay?" Sodapop asked me.

"yeah, yeah Im fine, just a little shook thats all" I answered back

"can I do anything to help?" he asked me

I laughed lightly. "no Sodapop its fine really. I'm just glad to see a familiar face"

he smiled and I looked down to the ground. I focused on my boots.

wow thats some great stitching there.

It was hard to concentrate on my shoes, I felt sodapop  staring at me.

gosh this is awkward.

Our hands brushed past each other and I felt my stomach flop.

And this isn't the best time for me  to feel nervous around a boy, because I just recently got attacked by some 'socs'.

I could feel myself shaking from the prior events with those guys, and it was hard to control my trembling.

my mom always warned me of the dangers of this dark world.

I felt me and Sodapop's hands brush together again, but this time he didn't let it slide.

I felt his warm, surprisingly soft hands intertwine with mine and I could feel his body relaxing. I smiled and looked down to the ground, and I held onto his hand tighter. I looked up to meet Soda's reckless blue eyes looking at me and he gave me the cutest smile. A really happy smile. I smiled back and his cheeks flushed, so did mine.

My heartbeat slowly steadied from the comfort from soda, and I felt ourselves slowly getting closer by the second.

"this feels nice" Soda said while rubbing his thumb over mine.

I smiled and turned to him.

"yeah it does."

There was a silence, but it wasn't awkward like before.

"so, dove, why did you move to Tulsa?" Soda asked me.

"well, my dad got a job offer, so..." I shrugged my shoulders.

It wasn't a complete lie.

He turned to me.

"really?" he asked me.

my breath hitched and I had a suspicion he had caught on to my 'not so complete lie.'

"your face, sweet cheeks" soda said while giggling.

yes giggling. and it was damn adorable.

I brought my hand, the one that wasn't intertwined with Soda's, up to my face and pressed my fingers against my cheeks.

"they're red, aren't they?" I asked him

he nodded his head but kept that bright smile on his face.

"you don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Soda said.

I smiled and turned to him, glad that he doesn't want to push it.

"okay, well, I'll tell you anyways." I said.

"My dad and his brother, my uncle, have never gotten a long. and they had this one fight that has kept them distant for a while now, probably how long I've been alive... " I said.

"Which is?" Soda asked me.

I smiled. " 16 years."

Soda nodded. "go on"

"And my uncle lives in Tulsa, with my cousin, his son of course, and my mother thought this was the perfect opportunity for us to be closer to family and my dad and uncle to make-up"

I sighed and turned to him. "that's it."

"hm, thats tough, im sorry" soda said.

I didn't say anything like 'okay' or 'its alright' because Soda has nothing to be sorry for. Its not even my problem anyway and I'm not to sorry about it. What I've heard from my parents is that uncle Tom and his son have never been quite that nice.

"oh! also, another 'fun fact' about my family problems, since my dad got so angry at my uncle, he didn't want us to have the same last name as them, almost like they were ashamed, so my last name is my mom's maiden name." I said

"sorry for rambling on" I spoke up

"no, it's alright. I want to know more about you." Soda smiled

"so, whats your last name then?" Soda asked.

"My name is Dove Lee, that's my mom's maiden name."

"And what would be your real last name?" Soda asked me.

I turned to him and smiled.

"Dove Randle."
