"Okay ma'am, your total comes to... $3.25," Eddie smiled, holding out his hand waiting for the customer to hand him the cash. The old lady opened her leather wallet, searching for the rest of the money she owed. "Oh dear, I left the rest of my change back home," she said, knowing that she wasn't going to get her morning coffee like she does every Sunday. "Margret, it's on me. Don't worry about it," Eddie took a handfull of change out of his back pocket and inputting the numbers into the register.
"Eddie dear, you don't have to do that for little ol' me," Margret smiled sweetly. She was a kind woman that was known well around the town of Derry. She was known for helping out around the community whenever she could, so she was well respected by almost everyone. "Oh ma'am, it's my pleasure. Take it as a thank you gift from me for paying for me last month," Eddie handed over the coffee and carrot muffin on a white plate decorated with little flowers. "Please dear, call me Margret, we've known each other since you were a baby," she took the plate and the cup of coffee in her fragile hands, gripping it, making sure she didn't drop the plate. "I know, but it feels more proper." Eddie ran his fingers through his neat, silky hair, making sure no hairs were out of place. "How old are you again dear?" Margret asked, taking a seat near the cash register.
Eddie quickly asked one of his co-workers, Bill to take over the cash while he talked to his dear old friend. He walked put form behind the cash register and sat across from her. "I am 16, just turned it a couple months ago." Margret smiled; her sweet blue eyes squinting. "I miss my young years, when young love was still valid."
"I know just what you mean about young love. I've been in love with this boy for about 4 years now..." Eddie started, then realized Margret's face had changed. "You're in love with a boy?" She asked, "That's so sweet! We don't get a lot of you folks around here. Maybe if more people we're open about it, Derry would be more accepting." Eddie understood completely. He wanted so much to come out to his mother, but knew the consequences would be severe for him. So he kept quiet to almost everyone but his closest friends; Bev, Ben, Stan, Bill and Mike. He knew they always had his back and kept every secret his ever told them.
He sighed, thinking about the boy he's been in love with for years; Richie Tozier. The school jock, the boy every girl fell head over heels for, someone Eddie Kasbrak had no chance with.
"He's the most popular guy in my school, the typical "jock" that every girl loves. So I got no chance with someone like him. Eddie sighed, resting his head in his hand. "God, he's beautiful."
Margret smiled, "You've fell hard for that boy, haven't you? I can see that little sparkle in your eyes." Eddie nodded, "I wish he knew I even existed..."
The jingle of door chimes is broke Eddie from his gaze of talking about Richie. Eddie looked over to the opening door to see none other than Richie Tozier. He was alone, which was unsual because he was always crowded with girls or his friends. But he was alone, which confused Eddie. "That's him..." Eddie whispered, loud enough for Margret to hear. She smiled, tapping Eddie on the shoulder, "Go talk to him." She ushered him. "Are you kidding? He wouldn't want to talk to me," Eddie kept staring at him, making Richie look over to meet his gaze. Richie's eyes seemingly staring right into Eddie's soul. "Hey! You're Eddie, right?" Richie started walking toward the table Eddie and Margret shared.
"I-I, um... yeah! That's me," Eddie stuttered our nervously, mentally cursing himself for making a bad first impression."Nice, I'm Richie, but I think you alreddie know that," he smiles, running his fingers through his curly, raven hair. Eddie look completely star struck, was Richie Tozier actually talking to him, acknowledging his presence?
"H-Hi, um... sorry I'm just really nervous.. because you're so cute and really attractive and you're standing right in front of me acknowledging my presence," Eddie's eyes widened, realizing he just basically told Richie his feelings toward him.
"Is that so, huh?" Richie smirked, dimples forming on the sides of his mouth, "well you're not so bad yourself Eds. Quite the cutie if I say so myself."Eddie's heart stopped at what he had just been told. Richie found him cute? Holy shit! The boy he's been pining after for years had just called him him cute, and he didn't say it sarcastically. A smile formed on Eddie's freckles face, "Well thank y-you, I-I appreciate it a lot."
"Kaspbrak! C-Can you come make an e-expresso p-please?" Bill called out to him, waving him over toward the cashier counter.
"Here sweetheart," Richie took a pen and a strip of paper from out of his backpack and placed it on the table. He wrote down his number and handed it to Eddie. "Call me sometime, maybe we can hang out, get to know each other better?" Richie winked, causing Eddie to blush harder than he already was. "S-Sure, I definitely will," Eddie took the piece of paper, held it in his hand, still not believing this was really happening.
"See ya," Richie took Eddie's hand from off of the table and kissed it lightly, sending shivers up Eddie's spine.
"B-Bye," Eddie got up and ran back to the coffee machine, blushing madly from the experience he just had.
"W-Well someone's i-in love," Bill stated, while Eddie started the machine. "Yeah, I am. I have been for years, and he fucking talked to me Bill, he kissed my hand and winked at me and... ugh... he's so pretty."
Bill laughed, "I-I have my eye on s-someone too, S-Stan... I've liked him for a c-couple months, h-he's so cute."Eddie smirked, "Is that so? He works right next door, maybe I should... have a little chat with him. Bill's eyes widened, "Y-You wouldn't d-dare!"
Eddie chuckled, "Oh I wouldn't now?" I go on break in 5 minutes Billy boy and you're still on shift for another half hour." Bill slapped Eddie on the back, "I'd k-kill you dude, pl-please don't." "I won't dude, you know I wouldn't do that to my best friend, Billiam," his eyes softened, making Bill calm down. "T-Thanks dude."
Eddie checked the clock that sat above the toasters; 3:01pm. "Okay, I'm heading on break. See ya Bill!" Eddie waved, walking into the back room.
He then remembered the slip of paper Richie had given him. He reached into his pocket and pulled it out, reading it over again. "Okay Eddie, you can to this, just call him," he told himself, walking over to the phone that hung on the wall. Dialing the number, his hands started shaking, making the grip on the phone tighten.
"Hello?" A voice came from the phone, causing Eddie's heart the race.
"Hey! I-It's Eddie, from the coffee shop?" Eddie smiled, leaning against the wall.
"Oh! Hey Eds! What's up? Missed my gorgeous face already?" He chuckled over the phone.Eddie rolled his eyes, still smiling like an idiot. "Yeah, I do miss it."
"Someone's forward, I like it." Eddie couldn't see, but he would tell Richie was smiling over the phone.
"Whatever. Do you... wanna hang out tonight? The park down by Hamilton Street?" Eddie asked, nervous for the answer.
There was no answer for a couple seconds, making Eddie think that Richie didn't want to."Sure, I'll see you there cutie. See you at 8."
Eddie smiled wider than he had ever before. "Y-Yeah! Okay, so you want me to bring anything?" He asked.
"Just your beautiful self is all I need." Richie responded, making an eruption of butterflies swirl around in Eddie's stomach. "He needs me..." He thought, mentally screaming at how excited he was.
"See you there Richie, I'll be waiting for you."Richie chuckled over the phone, "I'll see you soon beautiful, I miss you already."
Eddie blushed, "I-I miss you too Rich, bye."
Richie said his goodbye and hung up, Eddie still standing there with a smile plastered on his red face. "Yes!" He yelled joyfully, hanging the phone back up on the wall.
"I'm so fucking happy," he smiled, leaning against the wall with the slip of paper against his heart.
"See you soon Tozier."
