It's that time! Mating Season!

Chapter 25

Natsu's POV: (Time Skip)

We are all finally past the embarrassing part of the mating season and I've never been happier. 

Gray, of course, is still as protective as ever and it's oddly peaceful here. Usually something happens that causes someone to get hurt or something but no. Nothing has happened and it's weird. 

I've shared these thoughts with Luce but she says I should be glad. Which I am, but like I said, it's weird.

"Natsu, we're all going to the beach, are you coming?" Lucy asks. I nod, changing quickly. 

I follow her out and see Gray waiting with Loke. 

"Hey Loke!" I say and we high five. 

Gray and lucy roll their eyes as we begin to talk about anything and everything.

When we reach the beach I notice that everyone is here already. "Great, I'm late to the party." I say sarcastically. 

"Just go have fun, we'll be here awhile anyway." Gray says and I nod. 

I walk over to Wendy and Chelia who are playing splashing in the water. "Hey Natsu!" Wendy smiles. I wave and join them in the water. "How are you feeling?" Wendy asks. "Great! No more pain!" I exclaim. She giggles and we laugh together. I glace back towards Gray who is smiling at me. I give him a large grin back and continue splashing the water at the two younger girls.

As night begins to fall we all make our way back to the hotel. Gray grips my hand as we walk side by side. "So, the month is almost over." He starts and I nod in response. "Then everything goes back to normal?" I shrug, "Not, sure. But maybe we can get together as a group again another time and be together." I respond, swinging our arms. 

He smiles. "That'd be great." 

We are both engulfed in a comfortable silence once more. Until, "Natsu! Gray!" 

We turn around as Lucy runs toward us, Loke, Levy and Gajeel in tow. "Let's go out for dinner!" She exclaims, stopping in front of us.

"Yes! I'm starving!" I reply. 

The other laugh and we trek to the hotel to change.

"Natsu." 

"Hm?" I turn to look at Gray who is getting dressed, not that it will stay on for very long. 

"You almost ready?" I nod and slip my jacket over my arms. It's still colder at night so this is probably best. It's just a lighter jacket so it's not too bad.

"Okay, I have to grab my shoes but you can lay down and relax if you'd like."

"Okay." I mumble and fall back on the bed. I grab a pillow and hug it my chest. As I wait, I think back to everything that has happened in the past month. 

Mating season starting, the kiss... when I found out who my mate was. It's so surreal. The one person I never get along with, is the person I was destined to be with the rest of my life. I'm not complaining, I get to see a side of him that I've never seen. 

And to top it all off, he's a big softie underneath all that, whatever you want to call it...

But when Levi came, I thought for sure it was ending. I didn't really get a chance to be with him as a couple but I knew that I loved him, a lot.
