2019. 1. 15.

Eddy and I went to the city hall culture center today. We walked through some art exhibits in a group and listened to new recordings in the bookstore. Eddy didn't seem too happy though. I think his mind was fully occupied with finding a caretaker for me when things get worse...for me.

It was me who told Eddy that I would like a caretaker if I begin to lose more of my memory. Eddy told me that he cannot trust anybody and that he would rather stay at home by himself. I still want Eddy to carry on the twosetviolin though. Maybe find a new business partner - a better one.

Eddy told me that no such thing will happen. Twosetviolin has always been and will always be the channel of Brett and Eddy, he said.

Which means there is not much time left until we close the channel down, I told him too bitterly. I couldn't play much for a full week now.

I'm so sorry, Eddy.

"I'm hungry," Brett muttered in the middle of the movie.

"We can order some late-night food if you want," Eddy kissed Brett lightly on the forehead, fumbling for his phone at the table.

"Why haven't we eaten dinner yet?" Brett furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at the time - 11 PM.

Eddy stopped in his track, looking over Brett. Of course, they have eaten dinner a few hours ago. Brett was fidgeting with his hands, getting confused. The sign of Brett leaving him.

"I'm sorry - I got lost in the movie. We can eat dinner now, baby," Eddy said quietly, dialing the Chinese food place.

Brett got increasingly quiet as he stared into the TV screen, his eyes glazing. Eddy sat down next to Brett, combing Brett's hair with his fingers soothingly. Eddy felt a lump in his throat as he saw the light in Brett's eyes fade, knowing full-well that there is nothing he can do to grab Brett by his side.

"I need to practice before the class tomorrow," Brett mumbled.

Brett was already gone.

"I'm sorry," Eddy quickly stood up from the couch and ran out of the front step. As soon as he slammed the door shut, Eddy crumbled to the ground, tears falling from his eyes. It was always hard to see Brett come and go like this - an infinite cycle of losing Brett all over again. Eddy never wanted to show him crying in front of Brett since he knew so well Brett is the one who is suffering the most. Still, it was difficult to act strong every minute of the day.

"Mr. Chen?"

A soft voice called out in front of him. Eddy opened his teary eyes to see a short woman in his doorstep, holding a bag of delivered food.

"This is from Pepper Twins. Fried rice and a dumpling, right?"

"Yes," Eddy croaked out, embarrassed. He stood right up, wiping his tears off his sleeve. "Thank you."

"Are you alright?" The woman looked up at Eddy worryingly as she handed the food over.

"Yes, I'm fine. I'm..."

"You don't look fine," the woman raised her eyebrows when she heard a loud shouting inside the house.

"Bretty?" Eddy rushed inside the house, seeing Brett cuddled up beside the couch, trembling. "What happened?"

"I...there is something wrong! Something is wrong, Eddy! We need to run! We need to-"

"Everything is fine, Brett," Eddy took Brett in his arms, patting his back. Brett was always extra-confused when he just returns to his lost state.

"Um...everything really alright?" The woman asked through the front door.

Eddy sighed and walked over to the front door again, handing the cash to the girl.

"Yes, we are FINE," Eddy said sourly.

"The guy inside seemed pretty upset."

"He has early-onset Alzheimer's. He is confused. No need to call the police," Eddy smiled bitterly as he closed the door.

"Wait!" The girl called. Eddy sighed in frustration as he opened the door again.

"What?"

"I...my grandmother used to have Alzheimer's too. If you want to know a good... care center near here, I can let you know."

"I'm not interested."

"Once the disease reaches a terminal state, you will need some help, sir. I have seen how the disease kills not only the person but the whole family."

"Oh really?" Eddy leaned to the wall, eyeing the nosy girl with amusement.

"I..I'm sorry. I just related to this too much and I know I'm in no position to say this to you and-"

"No, no. Thank you," Eddy nodded as he smiled. "Can I have your phone number?"

"Um-"

"I will ask you about that care center when I need it. And I was wondering..."

Eddy leaned toward the girl with a spark in his eyes that made him few years younger -

"...are you interested in dinner sometime next week?"
