CHAPTER FIVE

"Y/N! Y/N COME QUICKLY!"

"Okay, I'm coming, I'm coming! There's still some people who're trying to sleep ya know Willy?" I groaned only for him to continue his scream fest.

"IT'S CLEMENTINE AND AJ HURRY!" Oh thank fuck!

I practically sprinted out to the courtyard to find Louis holding AJ as Clem follows slowly behind them with a slight limp.

"By the gods... CLEM, AJ! Oh my god! Willy hurry and get Ruby, quick!" The boy bolts off with a chorus of yells waking the rest of the group up along with it.

Engulfing Clem in a hug I rock us from side to side as if we're on a ship, silently crying in relief of their badly injured return. As if on cue Clem heavily leans into me and grasps my shirt tightly, breathing uneven and is shaking as she also joins me in the silent cry.

"They shot him I didn't know what to do until-" she lets out a large gasp that comes off shaky like a tremble. I pull away but grip her shoulders to make Look me in the eye.

"Oi, I don't wanna hear it! You're both here and you're both alive and right now that's all that matters to me. You kept him and yourself safe, plus if he's anything like his big sister he'll probably walk it off and act like nothing had happened, right?" I tried to make light of it to calm us both down which surprisingly worked as she cough and straightened up with a strong hold of herself. That's the Clem I know and love!

As we ushered inside the building Ruby told us to follow her upstairs so she could take a look at him properly.

"We got the shrapnel outta him." Clem claims making most of us raise brows at the comment.

"We?" Ruby questions with slight shock and unease.

"It's a long story..." Clem continues to walk and follow AJ with her eyes.

Getting into the room we all crowd the poor boy as Ruby places her hand checking his temperature only to say that he's running a fever and his body is trying to fight the infection. Violet tells Clem that she needs to talk to her in the office until AJ calls out to her. Ruby tries to soothe him but he continues to call for her making her look hurt at the sound of his voice so weak and scared.

"AJ listen to Ruby okay? She'll look after you. C'mon, what do we do when we're scared?" They both take deep breaths as Clem calms him down.

"Besides, Y/n is right here too and I won't be far either. We're safe now."

"Clementine please we need to talk!" Violet urges and walks out, Clem takes another worried glance towards AJ then looks at me, giving a nod which I return and she leaves.

"Oh god AJ- I was so scared I wouldn't see you and Clem again. What happened to you after you all split up?" I take ahold of his small hand only to gasp at how hot he really is.

"My, you really are burning up huh?" Ruby walks over with a bucket of water and a flannel. She passes me both as I wet it, ring it out and fold it neatly on top of his head; sighing in relief as he looked to somewhat relax some more.

After, he told us what happened to him and Clem and how he got shot as well. He mentioned Lily and the crack head looking guy which sparked curiosity in Ruby and Louis.

"So? Who are they?" Louis leans against the wall close to the sofa AJ was lay on.

"Well" I start, "I don't know anything about Mr Bible smoker but Lily...well Clem had told me her story briefly after we met. When this whole thing broke out she was taken in by a man named Lee and they stuck together until eventually they stayed with a group; this group had Lily in it and let me tell you Clem made it very clear to me that this woman is a complete bitch and couldn't be trusted. That was then later found out as she shot another woman from the group in the head in the midsts of an argument, after that they left Lily on the side of a road and she hadn't seen her since."
