Then the day of Reckoning came (cool name huh?) and we were all ready. Well, on the outside anyway. The machines were fully loaded, the sharpshooters has enough bullets to open there own store and the source was inside the tank of a digger, ready to go under. Ready to end this.
'Are you scared?' Launi asked me, before we left, not in a patronising or teasing way, but in a I-actually-care way. That gave me strength.
'No.' I lied, I can't robo-pullum out now. I had to be strong. In reality I was a little concerned but I pushed the fear aside to make way for the courage I needed.
As the soldiers lined up next to us a voice somewhere shouted our instructions, not that we needed to be reminded, and told us that when we make it back to base there will be a list on the giant screen, listing all the names of all the rebels and their jobs. I suddenly froze. What was I going to do after all this was done? I'm used to working in the canning factory but I only did that to make food for the soldiers in the war. What would happen to my job after that? Would I still be able to pay rent or buy food or... or...
I felt a warm hand in mine. Launi. She had obviously sensed my sudden panic and, although looking forward, had a slight smile at her efforts to comfort me. And it did. Will we remember each other after all this? I did not know, all I knew was the present. We will succeed. I squeezed her hand, she squeezed back. I was not alone.
'MARCH!' Came Anthony's shout. (Strange, I've never heard him shout.) And we were off.
