For the first year of training, Yamato taught Naruto Taijutsu, and hand seals. During that first year, Yamato introduced Naruto to Kenjutsu. Kenjutsu pertains to techniques that entail the use of swords, whether the users be shinobi, or samurai. Kenjutsu can be used in combination with taijutsu, ninjutsu, fūinjutsu, chakra flow and even genjutsu in order to achieve more devastating techniques. It is regarded as a branch of bukijutsu.

This continued into the second year, where Naruto started weight training. So that he can be faster, and stronger.

The third year consisted of everything from the last two being continued, but Yamato added Fuinjutsu to the list of things to train, and study. Fuinjutsu are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. Fūinjutsu can also be used to restrict movement or unseal objects either from within something or someone.

The fourth year, Yamato got Naruto started on Ninjutsu, and continued what he learned from the previous years. Ninjutsu is one of the three main jutsu categories. Ninjutsu is the most nebulous of the three, and may most simply be described as anything that is not genjutsu or taijutsu. Most ninjutsu require chakra and hand seals, but this is not always the case since the mere usage of weaponry qualifies as ninjutsu. The huge range of ninjutsu's uses is illustrated by its several sub-classifications: medical ninjutsu, reincarnation ninjutsu, space–time ninjutsu, barrier ninjutsu, sealing jutsu, and cursed seal jutsu. Also during the fourth year Naruto started doing chakra control exercises.

In the fifth year, Yamato had Naruto play shogi, and Go. It was to make Naruto smarter, and strategize better.

While the sixth, and seventh year, Yamato had Naruto practice everything he's learned, and made him focus more on the Academy. Why? Well, Naruto was getting a reputation as a prankster.

During the eighth year, Yamato had Naruto focus on Genjutsu. Genjutsu is one of the main jutsu categories which uses chakra. Unlike ninjutsu, the effects of genjutsu are not real, being only sensory illusions experienced by those who fall victim to it. According to the Second Mizukage, genjutsu falls under the broad category of Yin Release. All though, Naruto was ok at Genjutsu, but he couldn't do the ones that required very little chakra. When a new year started, Naruto was still continuing what he learned from the previous years.

Right now, Yamato is standing in front of Naruto. Naruto has grown his hair out. His spiky, sunshine blonde hair reached to the middle of his back, that he usually ties back into a ponytail, with two chin-length bangs framing his face. The blonde wears a pair of green goggles on his forehead. He wears a black t-shirt, and an additional pair of orange sleeves over his arms, with segmented metal arm protectors over the sleeves. Naruto also wears a pair of black pants, with a shuriken holster on his right knee, and orange pair of shinobi sandals that went up to the middle of his calf. He has over his pants, segmented leg protectors that went all the way down to his feet, starting from the upper thigh.

Naruto thought that the segmented armor looked cool, and very similar to the Shodai's armor. Hashirama is Naruto's most favorite Hokage. Why? It's a very simple answer. They have the same Kekkei Genkai.

Yamato then says, "Hey Naruto. It's been eight years already, since I started training you. Now it is time for you to pass the Genin Exams. That way you can study, and learn from under a Jounin. Good luck Naruto, but I know you won't need it. Also you are almost late. So I'd hurry up, if I were you, and eat your ramen that I have so graciously paid for."

Naruto finishes his bowl of extra large miso ramen, and rushes off towards the Academy. He gets there on time. The Uzumaki is sitting between one Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno.
