Melissa
It had been 2 weeks since the accident. Other than the amnesia, I'm good. Physically that is. When Shannon broke the news to me that I missed my practice board exam I nearly lost it. There went my dream of becoming a doctor...the last promise I made to my sister... everyone's been trying to tell to look at the bright side, but there's really no bright side to this... I've spent the past 8 years of my life studying...and all for nothing. All thanks to a drunk imbecile that hit me and was too much of a coward to accept his mistake.
"Hun? You ok?"
"Of course not, mom. I was so close to getting the career that I've worked so hard for. How do you expect me to regain the 8 past years that I've basically lost?!" I started crying.
"Melissa, sweetheart...I-" I cut her off.
"You know, the worst part is that that's not bugging me. I've been crying myself to sleep ever since I've woken up! The worst part of that is that I'm not in any physical pain...I-I don't even know why I'm crying! I'm missing something and it has to do with someone... I don't know who and it's driving me insane! I literally could've died during that night! And now I have to live with this void!? Why the hell was I even in my car so late? Where was I even coming from??! The more I try to even think about it makes me want to scream!" I was sobbing. I couldn't get a hold of myself and by the time I finished, I was too exhausted to even listen to my mom or my friends. I locked myself in my room.
"Mel...you have to come out eventually...we're gonna go get food...we'll bring you back some," Shan said quietly. I heard them all leave. I know that I've been difficult but how can they expect me not to be? I took a nap to ease my growing headache. When I woke up they still weren't home. 2:47 hmm prime time for lunch...
M- Have you guys eaten yet?
S- We're barely going to get our food...
M- No worries. I'm going to make myself something. I have a headache.
S- Try not to burn the house down, please ;)
M- Rude!
I made myself a small lunch just so I could drink an Advil. I dropped on the couch and decided to watch Disney+.
Huh...I watched all the Star Wars movies? Then it hit me. I heard his laugh...that contagious laugh that warmed my heart but I couldn't remember his face. The more I tried to concentrate the more my head started to throb. I decided to stop thinking about it and instead watch a movie. I ate, drank the Advil and laid down. I soon drifted off to sleep when my friends and mom came in.
"Hey, sweetie. How ya feeling?" asked my mom touching my forehead to see if I had a fever.
"Same old me," as if sensing my uneasiness Shan spoke up.
"But?" asked Shan
"I remembered someone's laugh...I saw that I watched all the Star Wars films and it hit me...like a flashback. Just his laugh, not his face or anything," I said sitting up.
"Melissa that was-" she was cut off by my mom.
"Shannon. We said that we would take it easy,"
"But Mrs. Anderson! How is she going to remember if we don't help her?!"
