"How fucking dare you?!"
William's screams echoed around in the tense air that filled the bookstore. Customers shuddered at the loud argument that went on between Roger and William. Since the day when he'd gotten shot, William was more than just upset at him, he was furious. A scary look, especially on him. He hated to admit it, but he was terrified of what he was capable of in the state of mind that he was in right now. His eyes filled with nothing but fury, burning in his eyes and the creases on his forehead couldn't get anymore folded. His heavy breath puffed against his skin, damp and hostility coming from it.
"I did the best I could! It's not my fault that this figure decided to come attack that night!" He screamed back, already fed up at his behavior. He didn't know how much more he could take from this idiot.
"Well, you should've tried harder! This is all your fucking fault!" Not even hesitating to do it, his hand smacked against Roger's face, slapping him. The burn that came with it spreading, his cheek turning clammy and rubbery to the touch. Not daring to turn back to him, Roger stood there, clutching his cheek in shock and trying to make the sting stop as people still watched the event unfold.
"You are a fucking disgrace to this store that your father has spent his whole life on!"
No, he didn't just say those things about him. Gasps left people surrounding the scene, stopping what they were doing. He never knew him and wouldn't either. All he could do was to turn back to him against his will, eyes irritated with the tears that he held back, keeping his emotions inside. He couldn't cry now, especially in front of William. His expression never changed but only grew worse, the glow in his eyes burning with rage and at that point, it scared Roger as well as the other customers. All eyes on him, waiting for more horrible words to stab Roger in the heart and humiliate him in front of everyone. It didn't take long for that to happen and by then he knew it was coming and he was well on his way to get out of the store as fast as possible.
"What's the matter, Taylor? Can't accept the fact that you'll never be anything other than a failure?!"
No, keep it in. He could do this.
"You can't escape the truth! You'll always be known as the failure that could never live up to his father's standards!" his voice kept growing louder with a slight growl to it, raspier than ever.
Keep it inside, Roger. Don't break now. Voice hitched in place, the lump in his throat nearly choking with the words that he wanted to say so badly but wouldn't let them come out. Body tensed up, struggling to keep up with the negativity churning up inside of him, filling every bit of his being, eyes clenched shut with all his force that fought back the tears. Hands trembled at the slightest, curving into fists at times and aching to teach Will the lesson he deserved. No...He had to resist. Turning away from the entire world, knowing that people were staring at him and the angry William that awaited him, he didn't want to either. All he could do was walk off the scene, closer and closer to the door. Time seemed to stop, the tense air getting to him with the silence that filled the store. He could only imagine what went on behind his back, but he didn't have to, it was already evident to him.
"Get the fuck out of my sight! You fired motherfucker!" he shrieked at the top of his lungs.
Those words rang loud and clear in his ears, their harsh nature digging into his self worth, not that it was high to begin with. No, he couldn't have. This was his entire world and now it was crashing down in mere seconds with only two words. Getting yelled at him was bad enough but now getting fired from him? That crossed the line. The bookshop meant everything to him and now it was getting taken away just like that? That was the last thing he had from his father, he couldn't let him do this. Whipping around in his direction, he was ready to stand up for himself.
