"I don't wanna,"

Newt sighed down at the child. "Your hair is at an unhealthy length, we have to."

They shoved him away. "Leave me alone."

He bit his lip, not finding it hard to remain patient, but finding it quite difficult to figure out a way to convince the child to let Newt cut their hair. Just as he was brainstorming, an idea popped into his head. Smiling, he said.

"On the train to Hogwarts, there's a sweet old woman who walks around with a trolley. It's filled with more sweets than you can possible imagine."

The child perked up at his voice. "Sweets?"

Newt nodded, still grinning from ear to ear. "Chocolate, lollies, jelly beans, anything you can imagine. In fact, they have their own magical twist."

"Huh?"

"For example," he sat down on the couch next to them. "there's not just chocolate bars, but we have chocolates in the shape of frogs that actually come to life."

The child's face dropped at the news, and soon looked as if they had tasted a lemon. "Ew!"

"What?" He questioned.

"I don't want to eat a frog!"

Newt couldn't help but chuckle. "Don't worry, it's only a spell that makes them sentient."

"Sentient?"

"They're able to move around as if they were alive,"

Y/N nodded, but pursed their lips. "Can they feel pain when you eat them?"

"No, Y/N," he shook his head. "no they cannot."

A smile lurked in the corner of their mouth, but it soon fell, and Y/N looked away from him. "Okay,"

"Okay?" Newt responded, raising an eyebrow.

Y/N took a deep breath. "You can cut my hair."

"Oh," he swallowed. "alright then."

The man stood up from the couch, and took his case out from under the kitchen table. He soon opened it, then looked back to the child.

"Come on then,"

Y/N gave him a puzzled stare. "Why not here?"

"I left my scissors in the workshop. Also, it's best if the creatures see you immediately after your hair is cut."

"Why?" They questioned, walking over to the case.

He shrugged. "It'll be easier for them to adapt to. You see, with animals, particularly young ones, they attach themselves onto what a person looks like when they see them several times. They become confused and upset when they see someone, but something seems different."

The child stared up at him for a moment, then began to giggle. Newt tilted his head in confusion.

"Why's that funny?"

They smiled shyly. "My mummy used to say that was what babies would do. She said that, when she was a baby, her mother told her she cried when her father shaved his beard." Their smile dropped, and they began to play with their hands, looking away. "I miss her, but...I'm happy you're here."

Newt felt his heart swell at their words. He nodded, and gently placed his hand on their shoulder. "Come on now, the sooner we cut your hair, the sooner we can go to Hogwarts."

Y/N followed him down the stairs. "The sooner we can get candy?"

He chuckled, and the two were soon in the workshop. "Yes, I believe I promised you that."
