"I never got to ask your name," Jacob started as we walked past the Kelpie's lake.
"Me?" I looked up at him and he nodded a little. "You don't remember me?" there was a silence. "It's Megan... So you don't remember throwing a knife at me?"
"What?" Jacob said sounding very shocked and worried.
"Nothing!" I said quickly staring awkwardly towards the cliffs for a few moments. It was sad but I get I was just one of the 'bad memories' that he would have lost. "Where's Paris?"
"In France, across the English channel," Newt smiled.
"We're leaving the country again?"
"Yep, don't tell Theseus..." Newt looked out towards the cliffs. "Jacob, that man Tina's been seeing..." Newt changed the subject. He liked Tina.
I walked along side the men for a bit but soon grew bored of their talking and wondered ahead. I loved the countryside. London could rain forever but here the whether was as unpredictable as dice. In the spring, the fields would be filled with butterflies and rabbits to chase and if it snowed in the winter it was the best place for snowmen.
There was a man at the edge of the cliffs and when I saw him I rejoined Newt and Jacob. "Who is this guy?" Jacob gestured the man.
"Oh, he's the only way we can leave the country without documentation," Newt explained. "Now, you don't suffer from motion sickness, do you?"
"I don't do well on boats," Jacob could tell something was going to happen.
"You'll be fine." Newt assured him. The man was wearing clothes that looked as though they had been rolled in mud and aged. "Stir you stumps. Leaves in one minute." the man said, his face weathered like his clothes and the bucket he stood in front of. "50 Galleons."
"No, we said 30," Newt protested.
"Uh-huh. 30 to go to France. 20 not to tell anyone I seen Newt Scamander and his pet leaving the country illegally. Price of fame, pal," The man argued back. If only my magic was stronger, then I could push the man off the cliff. I was nobody's 'pet'. Newt handed over the money anyway and the man counted it. "Mmm. 10 seconds. Eight"
"Jacob," Newt held out his hand.
"Seven. Six." Jacob held his hand under Newt's. The man looked at his watch. "Mmm... Four." the bucket began to rattle. "Three. Two." I held on to Newt's coat and Newt held Jacob's hand. "One." Newt stepped into the bucket and all three of us were sucked inside with Jacob screaming.
We apperated in this strange town where everyone spoke a different language with a funny accent. "I didn't like that Portkey, Newt." Jacob moaned. We walked down the pavement. Before turning a corner. "I didn't like that Portkey, Newt." Jacob repeated.
"So you keep saying," I moaned back.
"Follow me," Newt lead us up some stairs to where a police officer was talking in the funny language to an old woman. When he dismissed her Newt cast a small spell that made the police man sneeze and giggle. "Come on it'll wear off in a few minutes," Newt pulled us into the base of a statue.
The other side looked almost identical but this must have been the wizard side because Newt ran out into a large area where all the roads me and blew out a cloud of golden dust from his wand. He then made the adult niffler pop out of the case. "Get looking," Newt said in a loud whisper, the niffler gathered up a few coins that had come out with him and sat lazily on the case for a few seconds before Newt said again "Oi! Get looking."
The gold dust seemed to stick to old footprints and if you walked close enough then it could show the being that made them. I shifted to dragon form so I could smell better.
