A cup of coffee lay fuming on the dining table. The smoke rose from the hot liquid and mixed with the air. The welcoming of a new dawn was perfect this way.
Samaira inhaled deeply. The fragrance of the coffee was a source of satisfaction. She lifted the cup and rose upto her feet, making her way to the balcony. She was greeted with the sight of a lawn below with benches placed in an order, quite distant from one another.
The watchmen were at the gate, alert as ever.

She sipped the coffee before it lost its heat.

Ayush was having a quick recovery. He was now seen more cheerful and surprisingly asking helps and suggestions from her. He permitted a light smile to grace his lips most of the time which was pretty odd since Praniti's decease.

Her chubs were making her life more merrier than it was with their tantrums and laughters.

She was getting a number of reasons to smile these days. She believed her life was now going to be calmer than before. Though a certain wound is still fresh. She entrusted it to time as the latter can heal anything. Can't it?

She made her way to the living room as she finished her coffee. On her way, she crossed Ayush's room and caught a glimpse of him sleeping soundly through the ajar door. She noticed that his blanket was laying crumpled at his feet. The air conditioner was also turned on.
She slowly slid into the room and stood by his bed. She then quickly pulled up the blanket upto his shoulder and walked away briskly. Ayush stared at her retreating figure through his half open eyes, a smile plastered on his face.

Samaira brushed her hair and tied it into a low pony and adorned her eyes with kohl. Now she was all ready to go to her hospital. Today she had to take Ayush with her to remove the bandage of his hand. She hoped that he had gotten ready by now.

"Samaira! Would you please come here? "his voice cut through the air and hit her eardrums making her walk straight to his room.

"Yes?"Samaira asked.

"Did you see my watch? "he asked as he struggled to lift pile of books from the table.

"I didn't see. But will search for it. Please move. "she said as she took the books from him and arranged it. She looked down to see that his watch was on the floor in the space between the wall and the table.

She bent down and picked it up.It had a big scratch on its glass. She knew the watch was very special for him as Praniti had gifted it to him on their first Valentine's Day together. It was a branded item and didn't stop working despite of the acute damage. She decided not to show him and slowly slid it to her kurti's pocket without his notice.

She acted like she was searching for some more time and concluded that it was gone. She assured him that she will search for it once they return after job. Ayush looked as if he was trying to conceal his disappointment.

The little family, well the not so little family of five got into their car which had recovered from the slight defacements. Kevin was dropped at school and the babies were with them. The car finally pulled over at the hospital.
Ayush stepped out of the vehicle first. Samaira and the kids followed.

"Aah... The smell of medicines.. I missed my workplace. "He said dreamily leaving Samaira widening her eyes.

Prarthana hit his nose fiercely with her fist and Reyan started laughing. Samira who held her grinned playfully.

Ayush produced a fake cry and rubbed his nose with his palm.Prarthana extended her hands towards his face and he brought his face closer only to get his ears squeeze. It seemed that Prarthana didn't like her daddy missing the place which kept him occupied other than her.
Samaira chuckled and removed her hands from his ears which had already turned red.

They quickly made their way to the hospital.

............
Samaira drove the car with her focus on the road. Ayush had Prarthana cuddling on his lap and Reyan leaning onto him and sleeping. He set his eyes on the small rectangular back view mirror of the car. He saw that Samaira was too engaged in driving.

After short time, he looked at the mirror again to meet her orbs.
She quickly averted her glance from the mirror to the road. He bent his head to look at Prarthana and caressed her hair with his now free right hand.

"After a few days, your hand will be completely alright. Then you won't have to ask any help from me.Just like before. "Samaira uttered out of the blue. It seemed as if his hesitation to ask favours from her hurt her. But she was talking in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Samaira.. I really don't know what I would have done without you. Even before the fracture, you helped me a lot which I would be unable to repent. So please don't say that I've never needed you before. "his voice was sincere and this answer was unexpected.

Samaira felt something weird of this remark though it was completely normal. She had never expected something in return for anything she had done for him. But it made her feel bad that even after doing so much for him, he was maybe.. trying to avoid her.Now this answer was something else. She was confused about how she should interpret his words. She decided to keep quiet and concentrate on driving.

The rest of the journey was spent in silence.
