I am fully aware that if I was to tell a muggle that I was attending a magic school where we learnt how to brew potions and turn cats into a goblet, their jaw would draw to the floor and they would want to know everything about it with unmatched excitement. I know this because it has happened before. Don't worry, I quickly made her forget but still I always feel a little guilty on days like today where I stare at my parchment in boredom as Slughorn drones on about a potion we made in the first year.
Seeing's as I sat separate from Cat on the first day of potions class, I had to stay with the Slytherins meaning the only interaction we got with each other for a full 2 hours were a few cheeky eye rolls and small smiles. I wouldn't mind the lack of interaction if we were learning about something a little more exciting but that is not the case. I don't want to come off as ungrateful for being at Hogwarts, but we do review this potion every year.
"So, you will all have no trouble writing 2 rolls of parchment on the uses and effectiveness of this particular sleeping draught by tomorrow!" Just perfect. Why is it that professors always seem the most cheerful when making their students miserable?
I waited for Cat after class, so we could go to dinner together. Isla was the first to greet me and nudged me a little too hard with her shoulder as a hi. She was still wary of me because of... well because of my behaviour. If she was anyone else I would have jinxed her the moment she so much as glared at me, but I reckon that jinxing your girlfriend's best friend is not a very smart move.
"Saw you nearly fall asleep in there, maybe this advanced class is a little too much for you." It was more of a statement than a question, but the cockiness was still evident.
"Actually, quite the opposite." Before she could reply, Cat came over and kissed me on the cheek earning a gagging sound from Isla. Cat rolled her eyes and laced our fingers together.
"Ready for dinner?" She nodded eagerly and began leading the way following Isla with me in tow. I didn't mind, her butt looked really good from this angle.
I was more than ready for dinner by the time we reached the Great Hall. The sky resembled some kind of thunderstorm but one of the professors must have cast a silencing charm over it to keep the thunder at bay. Isla and Cat wondered off to the Hufflepuff table after I had received a brief kiss from my girl and I scanned the Slytherin table for Scorpio. I found him trembling but trying to hide it by covering himself with an oversized history of magic book.
Once I reached the other end of the table (trust Scorpio to be sat so far away) I plonked myself down next to him accidentally causing him to jump and drop his book on the floor accompanied by a large thud.
"What the frick Quiche!" I reached down and picked the book up for him as an apology which he snatched away again to rest his head on, his eyes shut tight.
"You do know that we are inside right? And there is a silencing charm cast as well." I had to stop myself from asking in an amused tone. Scorpio has hated thunderstorms ever since our first year when a particularly bad one made our crossing of the lake more terrifying than it should have been.
"Yes," he mumbled "but the lightening is the worst part." I decided not to push the problem further and instead indulged in some beef lasagne and crunchy piece of garlic bread. 15 minutes in and Scorpio still had an empty, untouched plate.
"If you aren't going to eat anything here will you at least eat something at Taylor's party tonight? You know Cat will kill you if you haven't eaten. "This made his head turn so his striking eyes met my own. Scorpio is objectively handsome, there is no doubt about that.
"You're not actually going to that are you?" His eyes sharpened and his tone was daring.
"Why? You think I'm going to cause trouble?"
"It's Taylor, of course you are." I faked being hurt and pouted.
"She starts it." Even though I said this slightly bent truth under my breath, Scorpio still huffed in response. "Besides Cat asked me." This seemed to have got his attention.
"So, I'm guessing you guys are okay again?" I nodded proudly, "and I'm guessing she will be at training tonight?" Fuck training. I completely forgot. I tried to hide the panic casually, but Scorpio caught on. "You forgot, didn't you?" I'm glad he was amused.
"I didn't forget! Just got distracted." Scorpio hummed in response.
We met up with Cat and Isla at the end of dinner and Isla blushed a little when Scorpio met her eyes for a little too long. I smirked at Cat who giggled to herself.
"So um about this party-"
"My party." Taylor swaggered up to our little gathering outside the entrance of the hall. I bit my tongue knowing that rising to her aggravation would just upset Cat. "Who said you were invited?"
Cat squeezed my hand moving closer to me, "I did." Taylor gritted her teeth. I knew that she wouldn't go back on anything Cat said.
"Fine but if they cause any problems then they are out." I wanted to get up in her face and point out that 'they' were here but instead I squeezed Cat's hand tight and kept my glare fixed on Taylor. I will show her trouble.
