I was both angry and sad and I didn't want to feel either of those things, in fact, I was more than fed up of feeling like that. And hey, maybe I shouldn't be upset with Cat for prioritising her friend who seemed to be having the biggest breakdown of her life. Wait no, I should be upset. That friend is the one who just gave me a black eye. My hands were shaking, and my jaw hurt from how hard I was clenching it. I deserve to be a priority. I deserve to be cared for. I..
A shallow whisper stopped my thoughts mid-sentence. The numerous torches lining the corridor seemed to shatter rather than extinguish until I was left in total darkness. Even the moonlight seemed to shine a dark light. I placed my still shaking hand on my wand listening out for any signs that someone was near. The voice whispered again but this time it seemed to echo off of the stone walls, can a whisper even do that?"It's time." I jumped and turned around quickly, wiping my ear on my shoulder to get rid of the chill the voice had left. I expected to come face to face with someone, anyone, but there was no one. I let out the breath I had been unconsciously holding and watched as it formed a cold mist before me. It's.. cold? I pulled my wand out slowly, being careful to not make too much noise. I muttered Lumos under my breath and a dim light reached the tip of my wand. While it was not enough light to see more than a few inches ahead of me, I did notice the shimmering reflection of the light from the walls. Now I don't know much amount different rocks or stones but I am pretty sure that light cannot shine off of limestone in such a way.
I tried to move closer to the wall but my feet felt like they had been weighted down. I moved my wand lower and tried to move my feet again only to be met with the sound of cracking and the sight of ice. Thick, unmovable ice.
"Lumos!" A considerably brighter light shot out of my wand, sliding along the ice. It didn't stop, the floor was covered in a blanket of white ice for as far as the eye could see. This didn't make sense. Did I do this? I barely had time to figure out how this had happened and how I had ended up in the middle of it before a herd of excited voices echoed down the corridor.
"You're.. you such good so good," slurred Taylor followed by a series of hiccups. My nose twitched which made the ice groan around me.
"Whatever you say, Taylor." Cat's harmonic chuckle made my chest hurt. Their voices were getting louder and their words ever clearer the closer they got. I could hear the shy voice of Scorpio being coxed by the flirty tone of Isla. The reality of the situation hit me, I was stuck in the middle of a field of ice with no explanation after storing off from a party, heck from the very people who were approaching. Fuck me.
"Is this.. ice??" I tried to twist and yank my feet out of the ice but it only seemed to grow more attached to me. Fuck fuck fuck.
"Quiche?" Scorpio's voice broke through my panic. I froze, well I froze more. I looked down the corridor at the small group who was gripping anything on the walls they could to help their movement along the slippery floor. I avoided Cat's piercing eyes and cleared my throat.
"What um.. what the hell happened here?" I almost mistook Scorpio's voice as playful had it not been for the concerned undertone. Now I could either tell him and therefore the whole group that I heard a freaky voice and suddenly found myself in ice, an explanation I'm= sure Taylor would have a field day with, orrrrr I could lie.
"Oh just practising a few charms," I put on my cocky smirk trying not to react too obviously as the ice retracted back to my feet and eventually disappeared. This is getting weirder by the second.
"That was a powerful charm." Cat's voice was quiet but cut through the air as it she had shouted. I turned my attention to her, my cocky smile faded.
"I was feeling powerful emotions." Even I was shocked by how toneless my own words were. I drew my eyes away from hers and instead followed her arm which was wrapped around Taylor's body keeping her standing. Hm. My nose twitched and I could hear the fate crack of ice again. I shook my head and looked back at the rest of the group.
"Goodnight." Before anyone could reply I pulled my heavy feet down the corridor. I had no intention of actually going to bed or going to sleep. I needed to figure this out.
