During the time when yokais still lived in the human world, there were many powerful yokais. Some were even called gods. Many yokais were dangerous, others were peaceful or neutral. It all depended on them of how they wanted to act.
Sat upon a tree branch was one such powerful yokai, a nine-tailed fox. He watched from afar as humans walked around their small town on their daily business. Some children were out playing around.
His tailed swayed with little interest in the humans' activities. He never really interacted with the humans, but there was the few rare occasions when he got spotted by them. But he would always walk away while the humans simply left him alone. That's just how things were.
Then there were the times the humans got bold and decided they'd try to fight him. Such as now for instance. At first he just ignored the humans yelling at him to come down, finding them annoying. Until they tried throwing rocks at him to draw his attention.
"My my..You humans never cease to amaze me by how obnoxious you are.." he sighed, covering his face with his fan. "If you want to fight me so badly then I encourage you, do you very best. But if you waste my time I'll end this pitiful fight before it even began"
Hopping down from the branch he glared at the humans who had bothered him for so long back away from him. They probably didn't expect him to take them up on their offer. Still they stood their ground. The weapons they had were pathetic, nothing but dull blades and training weapons.
Had they planned anything in case the slight chance he did decide to fight them?
"Please tell me this isn't what I'm going up against..This very may be a waste of time and effort"
With some hesitation one of humans lung at him, sword in hand and swung. Only for Kyuubi to vanish from sight and reappear a few feet away.
"Fufu, I almost felt the breeze from that" he smirked, folding his fan.
Each time they tried to land a hit on him, he'd just vanish and reappear, over and over. It looked like the humans were started to get tired from running around trying to have a fair fight with the kitsune. Tired enough to where they had to stop and catch their breath.
"Don't tell me you're giving up already. You've yet to even scratch me"
He watched in amusement as they try to muster some strength to continue the fight. But then he realized something, one human was missing. Suddenly he felt a slight pain on his back, they had manage to draw his attention elsewhere for a sneak attack. Luckily the blade was dull or it would of been an even worse wound. Still, it really hurt.
It annoyed him that such pathetic humans had managed to hurt him.
"I'll admit, I'm a little impressed. But let's end this"
In just a few seconds, before any of them had time to react, they all fell to the ground. Poison petals was his specialty. Of course it wouldn't kill them though.
Sighing he walked past them and made his way home. His back hurt a bit, but the pain would go away soon, along with any sort of wound it may of caused. It wasn't the worse thing he's ever experienced, so he'd be fine.
His home wasn't that far from the small town, but it was basically isolated. No one ever came by, unless they wanted to face his wrath for trespassing. The only people he ever allowed was those close to him, which wasn't many. Plus their visits were rare.
Once he was home he settled down on the couch, relieved that he could just relax after what he went through. Taking a deep breath he sighed, but once that breath he took was exhaled it appeared blue.
"Mm?" he tilted his head curiously.
That blue breath had created a small flame to appear before him. Reaching out he held the flame. He tried putting it out but it didn't work. When he stood up and walked away it followed him, staying close to him.
"I wonder..Is this a fox flame? It must be, since from what I know they're formed when a fox's breath turned blue.." he stared at the small flame. "Come here little one" he said, walking back to the couch. Doing as it was told, it followed him.
Laying down, ignoring the pain of his back, he held the flame close, "So small and warm...Maybe I'll keep you around. I'll raise you the best I can so maybe one day you'll have the power to gain your own human form"
The flame did nothing but stay close to Kyuubi. Doing its best to keep him warm. It was almost as if it was worried about him. Finally he wasn't alone anymore.
. . .
The next morning the pain was gone along with whatever wound he might of had. Those humans really did need better weapons if they wanted to give him some scars.
He smiled to the little flame, always staying close to him.
"If I'm going to raise you, you'll need a name. Onibi shall do"
The flame flickered, as if it liked the name it had been given.
"Fufu, I look forward to the day you gain your human form. Stay close to me and perhaps you can use some of my power to do so"
It'd take a long time for his little flame to gain enough spiritual power, even though he was born from Kyuubi's flames. It took him years to be able to gain his own human form, so no doubt it'll take about the same amount of time. Until then he'd keep Onibi safe and away from humans. There was no way he'd let harm come to his flame.
"This is a day I'll never forget. When you came into my life, Onibi"
