NOVEMBER COLLINS slugged her purple soccer bag over her shoulder as she walked out into the cold snowy weather of Minnesota. She could feel her socks become damp as the snow snuck between her feet and her slides. She wore the hoodie she always wore before a game with grey sweatpants.collins, #10
it was on her jersey and hoodie along with the team name, edina united- also known as the ravens.
as she walked towards the car, she caught glances with her neighbour playing hockey in his driveway. with the snow, hockey season was real popular. Nova did love to skate. she loved every sport but her parents told her to play one sport at a time.
"Nova! come on!" she heard her dad call out from the car. she averted her gaze away from the boy and smiled at her dad.
"alright! i'm coming!" she answered.
Nova looked through her window to see the familiar indoor soccer centre she's seen every weekend. she could already feel her pregame jitters coming. it was the final straw, the gold medal game, the game that would determine her entire future. scouts would be there and they're looking for the best of the best."god" Nova whispered to herself before her mum turned to her with a smile.
"nova, honey?" She said, "connie said she's going to come watch the game before her hockey practice today. she wants to know if you want to join her for a skate after the game"
Connie Moreau. November's best friend. they've been best friends since they were five when they were placed on the same little leagues team and Nova and Connie played real competitive with each other for their age. they shared that attribute. they were both competitive. Connie always wanted Nova to go back to hockey but soccer was her specialty.
Actually, she was a star at all sports. she could play football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, hockey, anything. her dad was a hockey player, her brother was a professional hockey player, but Nova just stuck to soccer for some reason.
She was smart, thats what made her shine and Connie knew it. everyone did. Except Connie had a feeling. she had a feeling like Nova belonged on the ice. she would always come by to the teams hockey practice and play around. she was quite the player and everyone kept telling her that. they had no idea what was holding her back.
"with her team?" Nova asked
"yes. they're your friends aren't they?"
"yeah... but what if i don't play well? won't you be mad? you shouldn't be awarding me now..."
Her mother shook her head. "your father and I are very proud. just play your game, you'll be alright"
she smiled but she swore she could hear her father scoff and her mother glare at him from the corner of her eye. they always said this before any game and when nova didn't do well, she wouldn't hear the end of it.
nova exited the car and began to walk towards the stadium. she scoffed to herself. "very proud? yeah, i'll bet..."
