13| Right Next to Banks

      "ALRIGHT lets forget the past. we lost a couple games, tough. but that was district 5. Now we're the ducks... and the Ducks, are undefeated!"

the entire team cheered as Bombay finished his pregame speech. Connie noticed her best friend looking off into the stands again. she was about to ask her what was up when a thought passed her mind. Nova's parents. she completely forgot about them. they never came to any of Nova's games and it was a rare moment when they were at home.

Connie frowned and nudged her best friend with her elbow. Nova turned to look at her and she smiled. Connie returned the gesture sweetly.

"quack. quack. quack. quack.." Bombay began to cheer. The team sent each other smiles and looks before joining in to make a powerful chant.

"quack! quack! quack! quack! quack! quack! quack! quack! quack! Gooooooooooo Ducks!"

The team raised their fists in the air as the starting line up went on.

Guy took face off while Nova was on the left and Connie was on the right. He referee blew his whistle and dropped the puck. The game just began.

It was second period and the Ducks were losing by two. Nova was out on the ice and she was racing along the sides while the cardinals passed around near the goal. Karp tried to get the puck from behind the net to clear it to the Cardinals side but he fell into the wall. Nova quickly skated past and grabbed the puck, passing it over to Connie. Connie quickly sailed it to Guy. Guy swerved around and passed it to Jesse, who made a quick wrist shot into the net. The team cheered and hugged him tightly before the play started up again.

Nova smiled as she changed lines. Connie and Her did their handshake solemnly before aimlessly bumping each other's shoulders repeatedly.

Nova turned back to the stands. she furrowed her eyebrows as she saw them sitting there. It was a shock but she couldn't dwell on the thought. she had to focus on the game. Coach looked back at her and saw her deep in thought.

He kicked her skate lightly, causing her to look up at him. He cocked his eyebrow, giving her a sincere and worried look. She shook it off and smiled before getting up and cheering for her team.

About a minute before the game ended, the score was 2-1 for the Cardinals. Currently, They had the puck and Karp was skating backwards as Coach yelled out defence. Nova had quickly subbed on and as she hit the ice, she watched the puck soar at Karp's face before he fell back.

The stands were on their toes as the team gathered around him.

Nova jumped around, trying to get a view of what was going on but she was far at the back and awfully too short.

Soon, Guy and Charlie hauled Karp up and lead him to the bench. The team followed and Averman skated beside Nova. He held Karp's very dented helmet in his hands as they skated over.

"wow," Nova said as her eyes widened while looking at the helmet, "hopefully that hit made him smarter because it sure can't make him dumber"

Averman snorted as they reached the bench where Bombay was looking at the scoreboard.

"okay Ducks! we still got a chance here," Bombay said, "Connie, Jesse, Nova, Guy... it's time for our secret weapon."

Everyone nodded as they skated into the ice. Coach talked to Fulton and Nova looked over at them. However, Her eyes couldn't help but wander over to the stands every few seconds.

Nova was cut out as she heard cheering as Fulton came onto the ice. She sent him a warm smile before getting ready for face off. She was on the left while Jesse took face off. Guy and Connie were defence and Fulton was right wing.
