"SO WHATS THAT THING coach was talking about again?" Guy asked as he plopped some popcorn into his mouth. The Breakfast Club played one the tv as the group of kids talked amongst themselves.
Adam had his legs stretched out in front of him as he sat on the floor, leaning against the bottom of the couch. Connie sat beside Guy, who was in front of the small table that held the popcorn. Averman was sprawled out on the couch, leaving no room for anyone while Charlie was sitting in front of the tv, leaning against the table for support. November sat between Adam and Guy with her legs crossed beneath her.
"i don't know," she said, "he was talking about a practice that was being held tomorrow- except, he said to not go to the arena but to like- someplace? i don't really know.."
Charlie turned from his gaze on the tv to look at the group, "yeah he said to meet at the lake or something and he'll drive us all to the arena"
"that's kinda stupid if you ask me.." Guy mumbled with popcorn in his mouth. Averman laughed and playfully smacked the back of Guy's head.
"well guess what Guy, nobody asked" He said as he stuck his tongue out.
Connie threw popcorn at Averman's face and glared at him before he glared back.
"does this always happen?" Adam whispered to Nova as she chuckled at her friends. She quickly turned to look at him, gasping lightly at the sudden close proximity of their faces.
"uh.." Nova chuckled nervously before she backed her face away from his, "yeah... it's pretty normal.. well.. knowing Averman, this is quite calm"
Adam raised his eyebrows and smiled lightly. "well i may as well start to get used to this"
Nova's smile quickly turned into a serious expression before she leaned closer to him, whispering quietly. "don't," She whispered into his ear, so close and quiet he could feel her breath, "you can still save yourself"
a smile fell onto Adam's face as he turned to look at her. she backed away slightly with a grin on her face as she chuckled. Their eyes met and both slightly blushed after realising their faces at close proximity once again.
November giggled as Adam chuckled amongst themselves, both catching the attention of Connie and Guy once again. They kept talking quietly, making the two quite interested.
"you're seeing what i'm seeing, right?" Connie whispered as she leaned forward to whisper in Guy's ear, not ripping her eyes away from the scene. Guy nodded, a small smile creeping onto his face.
"do you think we should ask what their talking about?" Guy whispered back.
"you're both creeps" Averman whispered. Both snapped their attention towards the redhead who was smirking on the couch.
"Averman!" Connie exclaimed catching everyone's attention, "we're you eavesdropping?!"
Adam and Nova furrowed their eyebrows while exchanging glances before looking at Connie who held an annoyed expression.
"maybeeee.." Averman sang with an innocent face
Guy rolled his eyes and pouted while Connie glared daggers at him.
"what were you guys talking about anyway?" Adam asked as Nova nodded along.
Guy and Connie sent Averman a warning glance as he smirked it off, "oh nothing... just-"
Connie smacked Averman's mouth shut as the front door of Nova's house opened. The group snapped their attention towards the door to see two adults with exhausted looks. the male had his messy dark brown hair and his green eyes, that Adam would know anywhere, we're nearly shut. The female had a messy bun in her light brown hair and her familiar looking face was clearly showing tiredness.
"Mom? Dad?" Nova said as she instantly stood up in shock, "you're home!"
November's mom smiled and gave Nova a hug, "hi honey, it's nice to see you"
Her dad came by and gave Nova a kiss on the forehead and an apologetic look, "sorry we haven't been able to see you much," He said tiredly, "you know work, always home too late and leaving too early."
Nova gave a halfhearted smile. "it's okay," She said, "oh... um, the ducks made playoffs! you guys think you could come watch a game?"
November's mom smiled and opened her mouth to speak but her father interrupted, "who are the ducks?"
Adam saw as Nova's face expression dropped a moment before she composed herself and smiled at her father, "the team. District Five also known as the ducks... we're doing well now... so will you?"
Her parents exchanged glances before giving her a smile with some kind of apologetic look laced in.
"maybe," November's mom said before she looked over at the five kids watching the family, "oh hello"
Nova almost forgot they were here as she quickly piped up and introduced Adam since he was the only one they hadn't met yet.
"oh!" Nova exclaimed before walking over to stand beside Adam, "Mom, Dad, you already know Connie, Guy, Averman, and Charlie... this is Adam-"
"Banks? i know," Nova's dad interrupted with a smile on his face. He approached the two and held his hand out to Adam, "I went to high school with your father and i've seen you play hockey. You're one hell of a player, kid."
Adam looked at Nova who shrugged before he took her fathers hand and gave a firm shake. "thank you sir," Adam said with a slight shake in his voice, "it's a pleasure to meet you"
November's Mom approached them and wrapped her arms around her husbands torso. She smiled at Adam warmly, "i'm Samantha and this is my husband, Elliot"
Adam gave a nod and a smile before she kept talking. "Nova, honey... your father and I are going to go sleep alright?" Samantha said to her daughter before turning to her daughters friends, "Connie, dear, feel free to stay over. Will you boys be okay going home?"
all three nodded silently with smiles before November's parents left and walked off. Suddenly, Nova let out a loud sigh, seeming as if she had been holding her breath the entire time. She slid down and sat back onto the ground as Adam slid down and plopped beside her. She had her head in her hands and her other four friends sat there, slightly frightened on what would happen.
"you okay?" Adam whispered only to her as he nudged her lightly.
November stayed silent a bit and stayed in that position before looking back up and giving him a forced smile. She nodded and looked at her other friends before locking eyes with him. His blue eyes meeting her green ones made her feel slightly more relaxed and made her smile a bit more genuine.
"yep," November said softly, "don't you worry about me"
