Donghyuck's POV

It was after school and I was was walking out of the school gates to get back home. As I was walking, I heard someone shout my name.

I turn around to see Mark— wait, Mark?

"Mark? Why are you here?" I asked him.

"Oh, well...my last lecture just ended and I saw you walking out of school so I thought I'd just say hi? Also, I was wondering if I could walk you home? Not in a weird way or anything—"

My heart skipped a beat at what Mark said; he wanted to walk me home. Walk me, Lee Donghyuck, home. My heart was going crazy. I couldn't even process whatever Mark was rambling on about.

"I'm just gonna stop talking now." Mark said with a sigh. "Well, see you later, Donghyuck."

I process what Mark says and suddenly realize that my silence probably gave Mark a no-go signal.

"Wait, Mark!" I say as I grab onto his arm. He stares back at me with confusion. "I don't mind you walking me home. Actually, I'm more than fine with it."

Mark smiles at me in relief and I smile back. We then walk step by step.

The first few minutes of the journey to my house were silent. The kind of silent that makes you cringe on the inside— a silent I'm not too fond of.

Thankfully, Mark is willing to break the silence. "So, you and Jeno, right?"

I remember Jaemin told him about our relationship that is actually fake in our eyes, but totally really in others' — like Mark's. "Y—yeah."

"Congratulations. He's your first, right?"

I cringe at the word "first". Mark seems to notice my slight change in attitude on his word choice.

"I meant, first boyfriend, that is." Mark quickly reassures.

I laugh— it's a bit awkward, but Mark doesn't seem to notice.

"Yeah, he is." I smile as I lie.

"That's cool."

The atmosphere turns back to it's awkward state, except I decide to speak up to break it this time.

"So, how's life been? Anything new?"

Mark shakes his head. "Not really. College has been a pain, but I'm living through it."

I nod. "Are you and Johnny still friends?"

"Yep, in fact, we've added three more people to our friend group." Mark says with a soft smile.

"Really, who?" I asked, honestly interested.

"They're all our age. The first one is Jaehyun, he's super athletic and super popular. Actually, we met because he accidentally hit me in the head with a basketball." I chuckle at the thought before Mark continues. "Anyways, he's super cool. A really nice guy, too. Literally always smiling, when he's not smiling, he's pretty much a different person. Antisocial with earbuds plugged in, blasting music and everything."

I nod slowly. "And the other two?"

"Ah, yes. Next is Taeil. He was a pretty shy person at first until he came out of his shell. At first I thought he was going to be a quiet, chill person, but then he turned out to be a total crack head." Mark laughs at his own statement before continuing onto the next person. "Then there's Taeyong. He's super nice and has a really good fashion sense, to be honest. He's a bit out there, but not too much. He gets flustered easily and also likes to nag a lot, especially at Jaehyun."

I nod with a smile on my face. "They seem amazing."

"They are." Mark confirms.

We take a turn.

"Do you remember Kim Doyoung?" Mark asks, suddenly.

"Yeah, why?"

Mark looks around, making sure no one's listening — or around — before leaning down slightly to whisper in my ear. "Jaehyun totally has a thing for him."

I gasp. "Wow, really?!"

Mark nods, a smirk on his face. "And I think its reciprocated."

I stare at him suspiciously. "Really? Doyoung hyung? I can't see him falling head over hills for someone."

Mark looks forward. "You never know~"

I smile softly to myself, loving how Mark and I were able to hold up a real conversation where I wasn't stuttering half of the time.

Does that mean we're getting closer?

I smile at my thoughts as my heart feels fuzzy before realizing I was standing still the whole time and Mark had gotten ahead of me.

"Come on, slow poke!" Mark says playfully, his cute smile on his face. A smile that I have grown more and more fond of over the years I've known him.

I smile widely back at him before skipping to catch up with him. We both laugh at my skip before we walk the rest of the way to my house.

This time, we weren't met with awkward silence, but comfortable and laugh-filled conversations, which are, in my opinion, way better.
