There's a lake that can show you immeasurable pains. That you'll never love and show you every chance you missed out on and what could have been. All the times you've lost someone because of an action you made or didn't. You'll see every light of your life go out in that lake. It lasts only a second but feels like years. When you leave the lake you'll be depressed and cave in. So many people will try to help you and eventually give up. You'll go back to the lake with empty hopes. You'll look in and see something new. Something you missed. In the reflection, there's another person with you. You two just sit there for a moment unsure if what you're seeing is true. You were certain you were alone. You turn to look at them and realise that it is real. You don't say anything yet. The lake shows you two sitting there. It's reflection not changing and you understand what it's saying. But you don't know what to do with it. You started your story on about why you're here and they understand. They tell you the same was for them. You guys become really close friends in the few hours together and eventually you'll leave to go home. But later that night you check the lake. It only shows your reflection. It's just a regular lake now because of them. It will no longer show you what you're missing out on anymore. It won't change because you didn't miss the chance. You took the moment when you had it and seized it. You know that it may just be an old wives tale that people still believe. Whatever it was, you weren't alone anymore. You had them, and maybe... They had you too.
But that's not what really happened like a fairy tale. What happened is someone stepped in your life who changed it. Not immediately. They slowly were incorporated until all you could see was them. They stayed by you through breakups and through the long periods of loneliness. Or maybe they just showed up one day. Like a little accident with a greater purpose. You could've met them three years earlier and didn't know. Or maybe you two met when you guys were kids in a distant memory. They may be someone who was introduced to you by a friend. Or a family friend.
Giving up leaves them alone.
Everyone has their counterpart. Hot and cold, dry and wet, night and day, light and dark. If you have too much of one it ruins everything. Leaving hot with warm creates an uncomfortable temperature. Leaving wet with a damp material leaves it soaking. Leaving night with dawn makes night ready to leave. leaving light with grey just dims its light. Like an unfinished puzzle and you have the last piece. You could leave it. Or you can finish the puzzle. The lake is just another way of telling you that no matter what happens, that you may have caused. All the possible pieces you may have discarded. You will end up with the right piece to your puzzle. You may meet them today, next week, next month, or even years later.
The lake isn't a bad thing. It'll give you sadness thinking you'll never love as you see all the love you've lost. But It never shows you the love you gained. When you meet the one it'll no longer change. It'll just become a lake. It has fulfilled it's purpose
