"One more day, bro." Logan says during lunch. "Think you're ready?"
"Of course he's ready," says Talia, "he has been practicing...right, Leo?" she adds.
I look offended. "Of COURSE I have, Talia."
She laughs. "Just making sure."
I scan the cafeteria. I never really noticed the different groups that hang out around here. Cheerleaders at one table, jocks at another. Nerds and geeks (there's a difference), gamers and hopscotch-ers, rope jumpers and...well, us. We're our own little tribe. And I like that.

What's happening?
Sorry if I worried you, it's nothing too extreme. Why are Jamal Woods and Ethan Harper sitting together? And laughing? And...did Jamal just...PAY Ethan Harper?
Ethan gets up and sits down at the empty end of a table.
"Hey guys, I'll be right back," I say.
"M'kay." says Talia.
I walk over to Ethan.
"Hello Ethan," I say, "what's up?"
He looks up at me. "Nothin' much. You?"
"Oh, I'm good. What uh...what were you doing over at Jamal's table?"
"Nothing," he says, almost too quickly.
"Okay..." I say and I start to back away slowly.
"Leo! Hold on. Let me buy you a snack. Doritos good?" He pulls out about 10 dollars and hands me two. "That should cover it."
"Thanks..." I say.
He was being too nice. As though he were trying to prove something. Something that wasn't true. That nothing important happened at Jamal's table.
Which, obviously, makes me believe that he's lying.
