Bella's P.O.V
When I was a little girl, my grandmother once brought me to the old cemetery in Forks to show me where my ancestors were laid to rest many years ago. I couldn't have been older than six and not merely as interested in the names on the tombstones before me as I am now. My mother was upset Grandma had brought me to the cemetery and forbade her from ever doing so again, claiming a cemetery is no place for a young child.
I hold Toby closer to me as my mother's reasoning runs through my head. Maybe I shouldn't have brought him, but Edward cannot know what I'm doing and Charlie is still at the station. I find the Swan Family tomb fairly quickly, in a sea of old tombstones and Forks' dead. I gently push the door, allowing myself in. There are a total of ten family members in this tomb, including my grandfather's mother.
I go through every name, including Isabella's parents, Elias and Irene Swan, but there is no Isabella Swan born in the early 1800s. Why isn't she buried here? Why isn't she with her family? Why is it that there is no trace of her memory in here... As if she never existed.
"You won't find her here."
I turn, letting out a scream that startles Toby. When I turn, hugging Toby closer to my body, I come face to face with a woman with pale skin and long Raven hair. She gives me an apologetic smile and shrugs, pointing to the tombstones behind me.
"You're looking for Isabella Swan, right? Elias and Irene's daughter."
"I-uh-"
"You won't find her here," she continued to say. She points to the tomb behind me. "You'll find their youngest, Charles Swan, but no Isabella. God knows I've looked for her, but I was never able to find where she was laid to rest. Your father, he's a junior right? Named after his grandfather."
"Y-yes." I hold Toby closer to me. "Who are you?"
"I'm Muriel. An old friend of Edward's."
"Edward doesn't have friends in Forks," I tell her. Why would she say she's a friend of Edward's? "And if he did, he would have told me."
Muriel shakes her head. "Not about me. He wouldn't tell you about me."
"Does it have anything to do with you snooping around my ancestors?" I asked sarcastically.
Muriel shrugs. "A bit. A know things... things other people wouldn't particularly know."
"Like what?"
"Like the fact you never told Edward about the baby you lost your senior year in high school."
My entire body tensed. How did she know? No one knows, not even my dad. The only person who knows is Carlisle and that's because he was the one who treated me and swore he wouldn't tell Edward. Well, he swore when I lied to him and told him I would tell Edward. I never did... it was hard... it was heartbreaking.
I was pregnant in highschool for fourteen weeks and I never knew it until I woke up one morning with a pool of blood between my legs. I knew it wasn't my period. It was just too much blood for it to be a period, so I threw my shorts and bedsheets away and drove myself to the hospital and asked for Carlisle to be paged. He was the only one I trusted.
* * *
Is there something more embaressing than having your boyfriend's foster dad checking the area between your legs? No, there isn't, but there was no other person I trusted in this hospital than him. Especially if what I think is happening is true.
Oh god, a baby? A baby with Edward... can we do that? I mean, we haven't been dating for long and we're still in highschool... a baby...
"How... how long do you think I am?" I ask Carlisle. He hasn't pulled in the ultrasound machine in yet and I'm getting anxious, I want to see our baby. "I'm freaking out... I'm sure Edward is going to freak out as well... shit, my dad is going to kill me! And I know you and Esme-"
