Chapter 9: Threat

Four months had passed since Takaki and Aya's "break up" and everyone seemed to notice that there's something different between Aya and Jesse, especially after their summer vacation. They can't seem to put their thoughts to it but the two became closer. There are even fans posting papapics of the two in a crowded train where Jesse's standing beside Aya as if protecting her from being bumped by other passengers. There are also reports that if there's one seat left in a bus or a train, Jesse would quickly offer it to Aya and let her sit. There's also one photo of them posted while walking home, Jesse was holding two school bags, and Aya wasn't, it was easy to assume that Jesse's holding Aya's bag for her.

There were some fans commenting that if they didn't know they're step siblings, they will think that Aya and Jesse were in some kind of a romantic relationship but they thought it was cute since Jesse was older and he's so protective of his little sister. In TV shows where Jesse's involved in, he would always talk about his sister and the stuffs they do together. Because of these, Jasper was just beyond glad that they're getting along really well.

One day, the two were resting at the living room, watching TV, "Hey, what do you give someone that has already almost everything?" Jesse asked.

"Hmm..." Aya thought hard then said, "Something handmade I guess? If that person has the capability of getting anything he or she wanted by the means of money, then isn't it better to give them something money cannot buy? Something... you know, someone had put an effort on giving it,"

"Oooh," Jesse nodded.

"Why do you ask?"

Jesse shook his head, "Nothing, just suddenly thought of it,"

"Oh," then Aya leaned her head to Jesse's shoulder, which Jesse willingly patted, "you know what? Thank goodness I was able to let go of my romantic feelings for you as my bias before we became close... or else, being close to you will be hard and awkward for me,"

Hearing this, Jesse could also hear the sound of his heart shattering into pieces. He knew he was partially at fault for making Aya forget whatever feelings she had for him and now he's going to pay the price for it. But he's contented in just being close to her, even though they can never be more than siblings. As much as he wanted it to be more than that, it can never happen.

"Do you happen to like anybody right now? It's been a while since Takaki-kun gave up on you, you know,"

"I don't know... do I really have to like someone?"

Jesse laughed, "You have a point, I didn't think of that. Yeah, you don't have to... you will when you will, right? And until you like someone, you're mine, right?" then he kissed her forehead.

"Un!" Aya joyfully replied, not knowing, not aware of the pain she just cause to the guy beside her.

Unknown to them, Jun and Jasper were watching them from their room, aware how each of their own child felt for each other but could not be together because of their marriage. Jun looked at Jasper, "Should we tell them already?"

"Not yet, we need to be sure first about their feelings," Jasper responded.

The next day, when Jesse arrived at work with a big plastic bag in his hand. Yugo looked at him, wondering what it was, "What's in that bag?"

"I'm going to make a gift for Aya," Jesse answered, "it's a scrapbook,"

"Oh, when's her birthday?"

"Next month, I'll compile the moments we had together, I had all the picture in my phone printed for this,"

"I like that, going to make a gift, instead of just simply buying one," Yugo smiled and sat beside him on the couch in their group's room, "mind if I help?"
