Authors note

Okay so Luke will finally be introduced in Chapter 14 so just hold on!

I am warning you now, I cried writing this chapter, so be prepared.

Avery's P.O.V

"You know, it's Christmas soon."

The movie was just finishing and the ending credits were beginning to roll. I'd been wrapped up in Michael's arms the entire time.

"Mhmm, are you going to visit your family?" I whisper, my lips lightly brush against his ear.

"I am, are you going to be okay here?"

No.

"Yes I'll be fine, I'll just miss you a lot."

"C'mon lets get you home."

He takes my hand and helps out of my seat. We walk out of the cinema and into the cold.

"Can we take the long way home?" I ask moving myself closer to him.

"Sure, I need to talk to you."

Michael's P.O.V

"Sure, I need to talk to you."

Sitting in silence during the whole movie was hell. All I could do was hold her close. How could I do this to her?

The cold winter air was almost suffocating, each breath would bring a sharp stabbing sensation to my lungs. I'm no better than everyone else who has done her wrong. I just hope that she'll forgive me. I guess I better get this over and done with.

"Hey Ave,"

"Mmm?"

"I love you, you know that right?"

"Yes, and I love you too Mikey."

She giggles and it kills me.

"Right well, as you know I'm not going to be here for Christmas, but it's not because I'm visiting family."

I can see the hurt in her eyes, tears forming in the corners.

"Okay so what is it? Are you sick? Are you trying to avoid me? What is it?"

I take a deep breath, hold onto her hands and look into her eyes.

"I'm so sorry."

Avery's P.O.V

"I'm so sorry." I can see water collecting in his eyes, but not yet threatening to spill.

What is he not telling me? I begin to shake violently. Why is he sorry?

"Michael, just tell me, what is it?!"

"I'm, I'm leaving."

I feel my heart stop. A heavy weight is put on my chest and I struggle to speak.

"For a few weeks? Months? Yea.."

"I don't know" he interrupts me.

"You, you're leaving. You're leaving me."

"I'm sorr.."

"No!" I shout.

I rip my hands out of his grasp.

"You shouldn't be sorry," I cry, "it's my fault, I drive everyone away. I ruin everything."

I can't look at him; I say what I have to and I run. Without breathing, thinking, I just run.

The cold wind lashes out on my bare skin, my hair sticks to my now damp face, my make up, smeared. I'm just a giant, weeping mess. My vision is not clear, and I can't run in a straight line.

As the blurred sight of my front door comes into vision, I fumble for my keys in my pocket. I fail to find them and stop banging on the door. The sound of my cries crescendoed in the silent night. I continue to pound on the door until Rhiannon finally answers.

I immediately fall into her arms. She strokes my hair soothingly and brings me inside.

"What's happened? Where is Michael?" She asks.

I fall to the floor and try to collect myself.

Rhiannon leaves the room to get me a glass of water.

I check my phone and see Michael has made no attempt to contact me. I stare his contact details for a while, I notice my hands visibly shaking, I feel anger course through my veins, I let myself lose control and throw my phone across the room. The device shatters and leaves broken shards across the floor.

Rhiannon runs back into the room as I begin to crawl over to the remains of my phone. I can see pieces slice me and I can begin to feel blood trickle-down my legs but I don't care.

Rhiannon grabs me and makes me sit up and look at her.

"Ave, stop it! Breathe! You're hurting yourself!"

I don't look at her. I just stare at the blank white wall opposite me. To say I feel hurt, would be an understatement. Instead, I force myself to feel nothing. To be completely numb.

"He didn't even say goodbye. I thought he was different. He didn't come after me!"

She looks confused and worried.

"He's gone."
