I was an official ninja now. Yay? I guess? I knew both Eriko and Machi would be ballistic. I sighed thinking of all the craziness that would follow me coming home. Even so, I’d rather be there than here. All people do here is fawn over the arrogant Uchiha. How did he get such a big fan club in the first place? All he did was look down on others.

Eh, whatever. There was still one more thing we had to do before we could go home. And that was get our assigned teams. Joy. From what I had gathered over the years, new shinobi were split into multiple groups of three. Meaning that this class had an extra person. Interesting. Would one group be made of four? Or would the extra have a squad to themselves? Frankly, I doubted the later was correct. One Genin wasn’t enough for a squad.

I shrugged to myself, earning a few weird glances from my classmates. It is what it is I guess. Iruka-Sensei walked back into the room, holding a list of what was probably names.
“Now before you go...” I tuned him out, impatiently waiting for the day to end. It didn’t matter what team I was put on. I didn’t  really fancy group work to begin with. “Mizushima, Akari.” Huh? I looked up, the confusion clear on my face. “You will be apart of Team 7. Alongside Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke.” Iruka looked annoyed, probably because he had to repeat himself.

It took a moment for this new information to register in my brain, but then I realized. My team consisted of an class clown idiot, a girl blinded by a childish crush, and a stuck up jerk. Great. Just great. I take back what I said, I care about what team I’m on, a lot. Hopefully they would just leave me be.

As soon as we were dismissed, I burst from my seat and pulled a fast walk out of the classroom. Best to leave before anyone decides we needed to get to know one another. Tomorrow we had to meet with our new sensei. So I want as much alone time as possible. After all, I’ll probably be with these guys for a long time. There’ll be plenty of time for introductions.

I took the long way home, obviously trying to avoid my hyper family for as long as possible. Sure, I loved them like they were my blood family, but they really knew how to drive me insane. Sighing as the house came into view, I prepared my poor ears for the onslaught of noise sure to come.

Hesitantly, I opened the door, almost expecting a bunch of confetti to rain down on my head. That would be right up their ally. But to my surprise, I was greeted with nothing but silence. Taking off my shoes, I walked through the quiet house. Where were they?

I was beginning to get worried, Eriko never left the house while I was at the academy. “Uhm... guys..? I’m home..?” I looked around anxiously, where the hell are they?! Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder and I tensed up. I was about to go and hit this person when I realized what was going on. “That. Was. Not. Funny.” I growled out, turning on my heel to face a ballistic Eriko and Machi.

”Big sissy got scared!” Machi started at me, giggling softly. There was no doubt Machi had thought of this little stunt. She was an evil little thing. For some reason she always laughs when someone’s scared, or at the mention of pain. She worries me honestly.

I patted her head, smiling. “Yep, you got me.” I agreed, somewhat reluctantly.

”You don have to worry! I strong ‘nough to protec mommy!” My smile grew larger, Machi meant the world to me. So did Eriko, and I knew both felt the same towards me.

I crouched down to Machi’s height. “Guess what.” I pulled out my new headband, my smile fading a little as I realized I wouldn’t be able to hang out around the house nearly as much. “I’m a real ninja now.”

Machi cheered happily, her eyes shining. “I knew big sissy would do it! Now you have to show me cool Jutsus!”

”There’s no need. I’m sure you’ll be a ninja in no time.” I meant it, Machi was smart for her age, and talented. Already, she had begun to pick up some of my simpler Jutsus. I stood back up to my full height, which really wasn’t that much taller. Unfortunately, I was quite short. Realizing I should probably inform Eriko about tomorrow’s plan, I did just that. Promising I would leave on time with the threat of no dinner hanging over my head.
