I awoke to Eriko smiling down at me like some creep. Why did each morning start the same? I wake up and Eriko’s just staring me down.
”Get out of my face.” I muttered, pushing her away.”It’s almost time to leave.” She stated with a frown. What?! My eyes widened as I threw off my covers, I wasn’t about to miss breakfast. Pushing Eriko from the room, I grabbed some clothes, quickly changing. I grabbed my tattered gray jacket, wrapping it around my waist as I walked towards the kitchen. What? If I wanted to, I could be ready within minutes.
I grabbed an apple, which seemed to be my favorite I’m running late food recently. I waved goodbye to Eriko and a somewhat confused Machi, my mouth to full to speak. Perhaps I could get a decent breakfast from one of the shops on the way there. Or at the very least, another apple. Kakashi said not to eat, but who cared? It probably isn’t that bad anyway.
Stopping at a store briefly, I bought a very large apple, hoping the two apples would hold me over until lunch.
I was about halfway through my second apple as the meeting place came into view. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura were all there, and they looked quite bored. As I neared, Sakura stared at me.
”Your late!” She accused. “And why are you eating?! Kakashi-Sensei said not to!”
Blinking, I realized I was indeed late. I shrugged, taking a large bite of my apple. “Well he’s not here. So who cares?” I muttered around my food, answering both her statements in one go. I watched with a small smirk as she turned her back. Leaning against a tree, I finished my apple.
A little while after I finished my apple, Kakashi appeared. How nice of him to join us. “Your very late.” I said softly. Both Naruto and Sakura agreed, while Sasuke just looked annoyed.
”Sorry,” He said with a smile. “A black cat crossed my path so I had to take the long way.” I sighed, how could I get mad at him when I was late as well? “Now then. I’ll explain this survival exercise...”
As soon as he said start I disappeared into the trees, taking extra care to hide myself well. I observed with narrow eyes, everyone had done the same and hidden themselves. Well... everyone except for Naruto. I felt the urge to bang my head against the tree, exasperated by Naruto’s antics. However, taking this opportunity, I studied Kakashi’s ability. He wasn’t even taking this seriously, as he was reading a book.
I stared at the cover, trying to read what it said. When I did I kinda regretted it, a warm blush spreading across my face. Whether it was embarrassment or something else, I don’t know. But that wasn’t important. My new sensei was a pervert, and he was open about it. The heavens really do hate me.
Suddenly, an idea crossed my mind. I think I know how to get a bell. Jumping down from my tree, I landed in front of Kakashi. Making sure to look curious and interested, I put on my best innocent act.
“What are you reading?” I asked sweetly. “I’ve been looking for a new book to read.” I stood on my tiptoes, acting as though I wanted a look at the book, all the while slowly inching towards him.
”U-Um..” Kakashi stared at me, seeming very flustered. “This book isn’t really made for.. people... your age..” He quickly shut the book, trying to shove it back into his bag.
”Just a peek? Please?” I stared at him with puppy dog eyes, resisting the urge to smirk as my plan worked. Just as he finally pushed the book back inside his bag, I lunged forward. Surprise was evident on his face as he dodged back, my fingers had just barely touched a bell.
”Crap.” I to, backed away, frowning. I was so close. Did Kakashi really fall for such a simple mind game? Wow. To say the least, I was unimpressed. Well, I’m not stupid, I can’t take him head on. Time to retreat for now. I disappeared back into the foliage of the trees, watching for another opportunity.
I watched as Naruto charged once again, and almost snickered when he was just as easily beaten as the time before. He just doesn’t learn does he? And then... Naruto fell for probably the most obvious trap of all time. Someone kill me now. This team is going to fail so badly.
From the corner of my eye, I caught Sasuke rushing forward. Probably trying to use this opportunity. Well then, I would take the opportunity when he failed. There was no doubt in my mind that Sasuke was good, but it was most definitely proved as he to brushed a bell.
As Sasuke was beaten by Kakashi, I sighed. Well. Time to get serious. Narrowing my eyes, I blocked out all the noise around me, focusing solely on my chakra. Slowly, I began to make the hand signs. Tiger.. horse.. dragon.. ox.. bird.. tiger.. bird. I opened my eyes, feeling the familiar electrified wind swirling around me. “Cyclone Style: Charged Gale.” I muttered. I let the paralyzing wind spread out, directing as much as possible to Kakashi.
I didn’t give a crap if the others got caught. If they were smart enough they would move. If they weren’t, well, sucks to be them. My breathing grew heavier as I focused on keeping the Jutsu intact, I was out of practice. Perhaps I should review when I get home. The wind swirled around Kakashi, instantly getting to work.
I yelped as a loud timer went off, forcibly breaking off my Jutsu. Dang. Looks like time was up. And I was just about to get serious to. I leaped from my tree, joining the group in the clearing. Naruto was tied to one of the stumps and I couldn’t help but smirk. Looks like he doesn’t get lunch. I felt a gaze on me and I turned to see Kakashi watching me. Had he realized I used ninjutsu? Or was he still flustered about my earlier attempt?
Well, whatever it was, if he had a problem he could come tell me himself. I sat down with my lunch, just about ready to devour it whole when Kakashi started talking. I didn’t pay much attention, until my name was mentioned.
”And Akari. You used a Jutsu with no regards to your squad. Had that been a real battle, you probably would of paralyzed your teammates as well as your enemy.” I frowned, so? It would’ve gotten the job done. Like I said, I was not a team player.
But wait a minute... how did he figure out what it did so quickly? Unless he had a lightning or wind chakra nature there was no way he would have noticed the electricity in the air so early on. I’d have to look into that later. Great, I just gave myself homework.
I was brought back to the present by Naruto’s grumbling stomach. Looking around I realized Kakashi was nowhere to be seen. Sasuke and Sakura weren’t sharing, though I could tell Sakura was thinking about it. Sighing, I shoved what little food I had left at Naruto.
”Eat. That loud stomach of yours is starting to bug me.” Following my lead, both Sakura and, to my surprise, Sasuke held out their food as well. Well this was getting kinda awkward. Though as I looked at Naruto it was obvious he was really happy and surprised.
”I can’t.” He said. And I almost face palmed at the realization of our stupidity. Sakura seemed to realize this to and grudgingly went to feed him. Suddenly, Kakashi appeared before us, looking quite mad. Glancing around at the others, I noticed they looked very nervous as storm clouds began to gather. Did something happen while I was zoned out?
”You disobeyed direct orders.” I stared at him, not blinking. We did? Oops. Everyone gathered closer together, squashing my smaller body in the process. Then something quite... unexpected happened. “You pass.” Kakashi said as the clouds cleared. What?
It seemed everyone was just as confused, and Naruto stated this out loud. “You. Pass.” Kakashi repeated. He then went on to explain how teamwork was essential for a squad and blah, blah, blah.
I guess I would have to work on my social skills if I wanted to please this guy.
