“No matter how hard you train your no match for Gatō and his men! The weak always lose and the strong always win! That’s how it works!” Inari stood up, clenching his fists. Tears streamed down his face and I couldn’t help but feel a little bad, to go through such a traumatic event so young must of been hard.

Naruto looked at him fiercely. “Yeah! Well it won’t be like that for me!” I sighed, oh boy.

“Stop poking your nose into this when you know nothing of this land! Your always playing around, not knowing one thing about pain!” Naruto stiffened, I think this conversation went a little to far.

”So your just going to cry all day? An idiot like you can cry forever! Your nothing but a coward!” Naruto abruptly stood up, ignoring Sakura as he left with a somewhat angry look.

Inari ran outside, and through a window I could see him staring out at the ocean. I wanted no part in this story of tragedy, I just wanted to go home. Kakashi stood and followed Inari outside, presumably to chat with him about Naruto’s harsh statement.

As Kakashi sat next to him I couldn’t help but want to listen in. I stood next to the window, straining my ears to pick up Kakashi’s words. And sure enough, he was explaining that Naruto really didn’t mean any harm with what he had said.

He then told Inari Naruto’s story, which in my opinion should’ve been a personal thing and not something you tell a kid you met not long ago. Just as I was debating whether on not to step away my interest peaked as Kakashi mentioned my name.

”And Akari... we found her practically starving in the woods not far from our village at a very young age. The squad that found her reported that she seemed terrified of other humans and fled as soon as they approached her. We don’t know what caused her to be left out by herself, and I doubt she remembers. But... the most likely answer was that her parents are either dead, or just didn’t want her.” I stared at him through the window. Did he seriously just do that? Now some random kid knows a piece of my story. It was already bad enough most of the village knew, I didn’t need Inari knowing as well.

Kakashi stood to leave a shocked Inari and I ducked out of sight. No need to be caught peeping. As Kakashi entered the house I casually walked to where I’d been sleeping. We were probably going back to the bridge tomorrow. So I needed to get some sleep.

The next day we were, quite unfortunately, ready to leave early. Tazuna seemed eager to get an early start. Darn it. How am I supposed to fight if I’m half asleep? Ever think of that? Not that I thought anything would happen, I mean if something were to happen it would’ve by now.

Naruto wasn’t coming today, thank god. He was always so loud and obnoxious. I’m kinda glad he used up all his chakra training.

For once, I was confident nothing bad would happen. But, as soon as we reached the bridge I was shown to never say ‘it won’t be a bad day’ again. Because apparently I jinxed it. All of the workers were sprawled across the bridge, clearly hurt.

Only a few moments later a thick fog rolled in. Could it be...? That same guy we fought before? I know Kakashi had his suspicions but there was no solid evidence. Maybe he was just overthinking it all? Hopefully?

Annndd my hope was wasted. Kakashi warned us that they were coming (obviously), and we all got into a defensive position.

”Sorry to keep you waiting Kakashi.” I internally groaned as Zabuza’s voice sounded through the mist. “I see you’ve still got those brats with you, as always.” He paused for a moment and I strained my ears to try and pinpoint his location. “That one’s still trembling. What a pity.” I guess he was referring to Sasuke, as I could feel his body shake occasionally.
