Chapter 30

For three nights Shen Wei and Ye Zun sat by Zhao Yunlan's bedside, wishing him to wake up. By the third night, even the doctor's couldn't assess what was happening with him, leaving the disheartened brothers with little hope.

Shen Wei refused to leave his lovers bedside for a second, tucking him in and making sure he was comfortable. He worried that Yunlan was suffering in pain, and he would clean his body from the sweat that dripped off him. Ye Zun stayed with his brother, diligently looking after him and coaxing him to be strong.

On the fourth day, Zhao Li An, Xia Yao and Shao Fei went to visit their friend in the hospital. Zhao Li An was in a very bad mood, he was anxious about his friend and annoyed by the presence of Jack, who insisted he tags along.

He sighed and walked to the other side of Shao Fei, so he didn't have to stand next to the grinning Jack. He gripped Shao Fei's coat and pointed to Jack accusingly.

"Why does he have to come along?" he muttered, sending Jack daggers.

"Li An, just let him tag along," Shao Fei reasoned. All week, they had quarrelled. Right on top of him too!

It was true that Jack had been trailing around them, but Zhao Li An didn't have to get so annoyed. Shao Fei thought that maybe Tang Yi had asked Jack to be friendly to him, especially since Shao Fei had weird and uncertain memories of Jack trying to kill him. Tang Yi had told him that he did meet Jack, but the memories were not true, he probably had them since he was drunk. Maybe he had watched a horror movie with sticks and blood? With no better explanation, he accepted what Tang Yi told him, and began to treat Jack nicely. However, that seemed to make Tang Yi angry and possessive.

In general Tang Yi was possessive. He had to sit next to him at school, despite everyone in the classes shocked expressions. If Shao Fei sat next to someone else's Tang Yi would pick his stuff up and silently stand next to the person, until they hurriedly rushed away, leaving the seat free for him. Every night Tang Yi would walk Shao Fei home, exchanging hot kisses in his bedroom, until Shao Fei would fall asleep. Shao Fei was happy and content with how things were progressing, but sometimes he wondered why Tang Yi never touched him further, why he always pulled away breathless when he tried opening his mouth to deepen the kiss. 

Shao Fei looked at both of them confused. Zhao Li An was very friendly to everyone he met, everyone but Jack.

"Zhao Yunlan was my very close friend." Jack protested, his hands in the back pockets of his leather black pants.

Zhao Li An sighed and rolled his eyes. Why did Jack have to wear such provocative clothing all the time, even to the hospital!

Visiting Zhao Yunlan was very sad for all of them. Zhao Yunlan was still on the bed, his heart beat steady but it was almost like he was brain dead. Seeing Shen Wei and Ye Zun looking so depressed also hit them hard, though Shao Fei still couldn't figure out what their relation to him was. He observed how Shen Wei held Yunlan's hand, and it made him turn pink and look away.

Zhao Li An was too sad to stay in the room any longer. He had bad memories of hospitals from when his grandmother got sick and died. He remembered sleeping in the hospital on the chair by her bed scared to leave and sleep alone at home, but also scared that if he left her, somehow she would drift away.

Despite Zhao Li An's intentions to stay up, she died when he was sleeping, early in the morning. Zhao Li An sorrowfully had gone home, to the cold dark house and began to adjust to living life alone.

He walked out of the ward and along the corridor, stopping by the water fountain. He took a cup out and was about to get a drink when a hand whisked the cup out of his hand.
