prompt - ricky and nini finally tell their parents that they're back together

ricky and nini sat in ricky's bedroom a few days after opening night. his mother, lynne, was still in town for a few days with todd. mike has taken them out to lunch, giving the newly acquainted couple a few hours alone together.

ever since ricky's post opening night love confession, nini and ricky were trying to spend some time together. just yesterday, nini had told ricky about the offer from the performing arts school. he, of course, encouraged her to accept but nini ended up making the decision to decline. she had claimed that she was 'not ready and wasn't comfortable'. no matter, ricky was there with lots of hugs.

the couple currently laid on ricky's bed, tangled playing on the tv. it had been difficult for both of them to not remain physical contact with one another even if that meant just touching fingertips.

right as the floating lantern scene began to play out, ricky turned to nini. "one day i'm going to take you to a lantern festival. it was my original intention," ricky spoke softly.

"intention of what?" nini asked, curious of the further story.

ricky sat up and rested his back against his headboard. nini then shifted so her head was in his lap. it was pretty much the same as the night they 'took a break' but switched.

"well, after we watched tangled on our first date, i told myself that when i was ready to tell you that i loved you, i was gonna do it at a lantern festival. but then-" ricky explained but trailed off at the end.

"you're perfect richard," nini spoke as she moved her hand up to rest on his cheek. ricky scoffed. "not as perfect as you nina," he responded.

"i love you," nini whispered. ricky blushed and smiled, shaking his head. "i love you too," he said before leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to nini's lips.

right as nini had moved so she was now sitting up to kiss ricky, the door downstairs opened. "ricky we're home!" mike called from downstairs. the couple broke apart.

ricky groaned. "time to deal with todd," he began, "i'm upstairs. nini's here also!" nini grabbed the remote to pause the movie right as the door opened. "oh hi nini. we need you downstairs. you can come to nini," mike spoke.

ricky turned to nini with puppy dog eyes. "please save me. i really don't want to listen to my mom and todd talk about their relationship. i just can't right now," he pleaded. nini smiled at her boyfriends begging. she then took his hands in her's.

"look honey, i know you don't want to talk to todd but we're going to have to. and besides, i'll be sitting with you the entire time," she assured him.

"but that's the thing, my parents don't know yet," ricky confessed. nini's mouth went into an 'o' shape. "i haven't told mine either. should we?" she suggested. ricky nodded, "only if your comfortable."

the couple slowly made their way down the stairs to the living room. mike was sitting in the chair while lynne and todd were on the couch, his arm wrapped around her. ricky grimaced at that. he felt a light nudge on his lower back. nini motioned for him to sit on the loveseat.

"so ricky, how's school?" todd spoke up.

ricky glanced at nini. she nodded and motioned with her head. "it's okay. not very stressful now that the musical is over. i have classes with my friends and four of them with nini."

"ah, so this is nini," todd said.

he nodded. "yeah this is nini, my," ricky started glancing over at nini. she nodded reassuringly. "girlfriend," he finished. both lynne and mike's eyes went wide. todd however was unaware of the whole situation and ricky intended to keep it that way.

"girlfriend?" mike asked.

"yeah we got back together after opening night finished," nini spoke, taking over for ricky. both parents smiled. "we're beyond happy for you."

two days later, ricky knocked on the door of the salazar-roberts household. nini rushed down the stairs past her moms and opened the door with a wide grin.

"hey richard," nini greeted.

"hi nin," ricky also smiled as he tossed his helmet in the bin and placed the skateboard in also. the bin had been there ever since ricky had taken up skateboarding when they were kids for him to put his gear in.

ricky followed nini into her home and into the kitchen. "hi carol and dana," ricky spoke shyly. they both smiled at him in response. the couple was set to have a chill day at nini's before going bowling thag night.

"do you just want to tell them?" nini asked, breaking the silence. both dana and carol looked up from their work on the table.

"tell us what? that you two are back together?" carol said with a relaxed tone.

both nini and ricky went wide eyes. "you knew?" ricky spoke up first. "yeah, kourtney told us the minute after she caught you two kissing after the play," dana followed up. they wouldn't admit it but both released a sigh of relief. that was honestly a lot easier than expected.

"now run along," carol smiled. nini walked out of the room first and ricky began to follow. however before he could make it out of the room, he felt a tight on his sleeve. ricky spun around.

"we're glad to have you back in the family ricky." after that, ricky couldn't keep the smile off of his face.
