prompt - ricky proposes to nini

a lot had changed for the theatre kids. due to their different years, everyone had gone different spots at different times.

ej had gotten into stanford for both water polo and academics. he was in his senior year of college and had received an offer to play for the usa men's water polo olympic team. everyone was beyond thrilled. his cousin, ashlyn, headed to julliard along side nini, both for song writing.

big red had gone to university of utah to study engineering. that wasn't a big surprise due to his love of robotics he acquired in junior year of high-school. him and ashlyn were still going strong. kourtney moved to new york and attended the fashion institute of technology. her, nini, and ashlyn all shared an apartment.

unsurprisingly, gina had gotten an offer for julliard for dance early junior year. it was a shock that three theatre students all got into julliard but that was besides the point. she was now pretty well known and an incredible dancer.

seb moved to to michigan to attend michigan state to become a veterinarian due to his love for animals, especially the ones on his farm. carlos also moved to michigan to become a social worker, wanting to help kids who were abandoned by their parents for various reasons. they were both sophomores in college.

that left ricky. during senior year, ricky had the most difficulty deciding what he wanted to do with his life. in the end, he decided to attend columbia university with the intention of becoming a therapist and with a business minor. it sounded dumb to him at first but after some serious thinking, ricky realized he wanted to help people and try to steer them away from the path his parents took. he was even talking to carlos about starting an organization that combined therapy as well as social workers.

the highlight of everyone's college experience was that they all still stayed friends. big red was in constant contact with his friends. ej even got to fly out to new york a couple times for his matches. seb and carlos got to hangout all the time. finally, ricky, nini, ashlyn, gina, and kourtney all stayed friends due to their time in new york.

however, ricky was having some commitment issues.

present day, ricky opened the door to nini's apartment. the other two girls were out at classes so just nini was home. "hi baby," ricky greeted, loosening his tie before sitting down next to his girlfriend.

"tough day?" she asked.

he nodded as he moved his head into her lap, smiling at her fingers running through his hair. "yeah," ricky mumbled. it was his junior year of college and the work was beginning to pile up. between earning two degrees, talking to carlos, and working on opening a business, he was pretty stressed to say the least.

"what time is your class again?" ricky asked.

nini pondered for a moment. "6, so we got a couple hours. it's my creative writing class which is honestly so fun. ashlyn is in that class and the teacher-" ricky listened as nini gushed about her college classes. he let his mind wonder and was beginning to think about how that in a couple years, this could be them talking about their days at work. maybe in their home which they shared, happily married. 'wait married?' ricky thought to himself.

it's true that after they had gotten back together, the couple had been dating for around 4 years. they had talked about their future but that was when it was 2am and both were delirious from the lack of sleep. now, however, ricky had some serious thinking to do.
