The sunlight was streaming through my window making me wince slightly as I woke up. The film I had put on had long since finished and now all that could be heard was the well known music from Harry Potter playing over the menu choices. My phone was on the coffee table next to the sofa, I picked it up and saw a text from Jake.
Really enjoyed spending time with you this morning. Can I come round later? x
Luke's voicemail played in my mind. Although I really didn't want him to come round the normal part of my brain, the part that wasn't a total bitch, reminded me of how much I had missed him. I also really needed to know what had happened to make him leave so that I could put that part of my life to bed. The only way I could do that would be to understand what had happened and make sure it was nothing I had done. I typed out a quick reply,
Yeah me too. You're actually quite nice. Who knew? I would really like to see you again but could do with a decent sleep tonight. Rain check?
The message receipt told me that he'd read the message, a couple of seconds passed before he replied
Anything for you sweetheart <3
I smiled at my phone, him calling me sweetheart was something I normally ignored or took as sarcasm, but in that message it sounded more like affection. For the rest of the day I attempted to bring some sanity back into my life, it felt like the date, if we were calling it that, had been a turning point in our previously toxic relationship. The flat was cleaned from top to bottom and I visited the laundrette and washed every piece of clothing that was in my washing basket. It felt good to organise and clean, my brain needed a clean start. It may not last but I needed to try. I couldn't have family stay mad at me. My stomach rumbled, I had been so busy all day that I had forgotten to eat lunch. Just like everything else in my life, I was shit at remembering to eat. I was one of those irritating people who forgot to eat.
It was a few hours later whilst I was sat in the bath that I heard the small knock on the door. There weren't many people who would visit me at 9pm on a Sunday so I was pretty certain I knew who it was. I stood up and wrapped my towel around my body, I glanced in the mirror and saw my messy bun was still in tact and my skin looked fresh even though it was flushed from the heat of my bath.
By the time I reached the door I had prepared myself for whatever was going to come out of his mouth, I knew it would probably lead to us arguing. I pulled open the door but I was not prepared for the sight that stood in front of me.
"Hey Tilly" his voice was so familiar, it felt like home.
Luke was wearing loose fitted slacks with a flannel shirt that showed off his muscular arms. God, he was gorgeous. His eyes scanned up and down my body appreciating what he saw.
"I suppose you better come in" I told him.
He strode through the door with such confidence, his big stator made my already small apartment feel tiny. He walked over to my couch and plonked himself down in the middle, the couch was dwarfed under the size of him.
"Let me get dressed, then you can say what you need to and leave" I told him as I walked into my bedroom. As I closed the door I realised that I hadn't took a breath since I'd opened the door to Luke. I threw on a pair of sweat pants and a thick jumper and I was back into the front room within a couple of minutes. He was still sat in the place I had left him, not wanting to squeeze next to him on the sofa I walked into the kitchen.
"Drink?" I asked him.
"No thanks, I drove" he replied, still looking at me with that knowing look he pulled when he could read me like a book. He obviously knew I was keeping a distance from him.

RomanceLet me make this clear, I had no excuse for my behaviour. I had experienced no trauma. I had a family who loved me. I had friends who stood by me. I was just a mess. I just needed an escape and that was exactly what Jake provided me.
