When Amy dropped me off, I felt like I had butterflies in my stomach. As if I was walking to death row, it felt like the end of my life. I had the best time of my life, but to say I wasn't scared to see my parents reaction at my events that's taken place today would be an understatement of the century.
Holding my breath, I walked in the house and silently shut the door. As I made my way down the hall, my dad stopped me right as I was about to enter my room. "Come in here and have a seat," my dad ordered. Dropping the bags, I followed my dad to the living room. My mom was sitting on the couch looking so distressed. My dad sat next to her and rubbed her back.
"We send you to public school, and you disrespect us by not going. Instead, you coming home with bags full of only God knows what. You have disappointed your mother and I, we get a phone call saying that you didn't attend any of your classes today," he explained. "Today was Senior s- My dad cut me off.. "First, we trusted you to make the right decisions. Second, every since you started going to public school your behavior with friend you made has changed you. Riley, we can't do this, it's putting too much stress on your mother...I'm gonna have to ask you to leave," he sighed.
I sat there flabbergasted, I tried to let his words sink in. "Dad, I have nowhere else to go," I said tapping my foot nervously. I couldn't believe this was happening. My father is a preacher, how could he kick his only daughter out in the cold? What did I do to deserve this?" I thought.
I was so speechless, my mind was wondering everywhere. Where am I gonna live? Why are my parents doing this to me? Tears welled up in my eyes, but they did not fall. I packed two big suit cases filled them with all my clothes and accessories, then I grabbed my bags to leave. I didn't even bother saying goodbye to my parents, I left without a word.
Going in no particular direction, I just began to walk hoping to clear my head. I didn't wanna impose on Amy's family, so I didn't go there. I walked past her house and kept walking. Someone was sitting on the ground leaning up against a tree. Walking closer, I saw it was a guy that looked familiar. Where have I seen him, I thought. The boy looked up, and I noticed I had saw him from the party at Amy's house.
"Hey," he got up walking over to me. "Hey, why are you outside?" I asked. "I should be asking you the same thing," he replied gesturing toward my suitcases. "I got kicked out," I said looking down. "Really?" He said grabbing his chest for dramatic effects. "Not you, what did you do break a dish?" He teased. "No," I laughed. "My parents feel like every since they've put me in public school my behavior has changed, so they don't feel like I should live there anymore," I explained.
We just stood there on the sidewalk and I didn't know what to do or say. It felt awkward to be in silence with someone you barely know. "Are you um..gonna say anything?" I asked breaking the silence. "I'm sorry you got kicked out, where were you headed?" He questioned. "I don't know, I was just walking," I truthfully said. "You wanna live with me?" He asked. "I can't..I mean, what will your parents think?" I asked.
"Its only my mom and I, and I can guarantee you she wont mind," he said. "Wait, I don't know your name or anything about you," I stated. "Well, my name is Josh Daniels. I am an only child, my parents are divorced. As you already know I live with my mom, and I live with my dad over the summer. My favorite sport is basketball, I hate spinach and love pizza. I'm eighteen, and I have a birthday coming up in a few months. Is there anything else you wanna know?" Riley looked at Josh with her eyes glazed over.
"I don't know what to say." "Come live with us, we wont abandoned you or throw you to the curb?" He said with a smirk. "How could you be so nice to me and you don't know anything about me?" I asked biting my lip. "Because I know what its like to be in need, I know what its like to feel alone," he said looking into my eyes.
Josh saw Riley shivering and wrapped an arm around her as they walked into his house. "We have an extra bedroom that you can stay in, If you need anything let me know," Josh said leaving me to settle in. Looking around the room, it was small but I was thankful beyond measure. I sat my suitcases down beside the desk, and decided to take a hot shower. After my shower, I laid in bed and prayed, then I went to sleep.
