The weekend came in a flash, I was surprised to see it here so quickly. Josh and I had been at his house watching TV and sometimes playing boardgames. Checkers was the game I kept beating him in, but he kept insisting on playing. So, I kept on winning, until he finally gave up. "How come your so good?" Josh asked "When I was growing up, my dad and I used to play," I reminisced over old times.

"I haven't seen your mom since I been here, where is she?" I asked looking at him strange. "She is working most of the time, but we're having family day this evening," Josh replied. "What's family day consist of?" "Its kind of a tradition around this time, my mom and I play games, eat all kinds of junk and ride around to see the Christmas lights in town," he informed me.

My face lit up with the excitement of his words. I had never done anything like that, I've always just gone to church to a watch night. "What do you usually do this time of year?" He asked breaking me out of my thoughts. "Since my dad's the preacher, we'd go to church to a watch night, and we'd stay at church until midnight praying," I said looking down. "Hey," Josh said lifting my chin. "That's nothing to be embarrassed about." I half smiled at him.

"C'mon, go get dressed so we can go to the market !" "My mom left me with some money, so we can buy a bunch of junk for this evening." "Ok, well let me get out of these pajamas and put on some real clothes." Riley headed to the guest room, and dug through her clothes. She pulled out some blue jean tights and a black shirt that read Y.O. L. O. Combing through her hair, she left the room after sliding on her black flip flops.

When I entered the living room, Josh was sitting on the couch staring off like he was in deep thought. Clearing my throat, he looked up and grabbed the keys to head out the door. I traveled out the door behind him and I rushed back inside to grab a jacket. "I was wondering why you were dressed like its summer time," he commented. Laughing due to my obliviousness of the whether, we headed out the door to the market.

We pulled up to the market a little over thirty minutes, and we ran in the store. "Whew!" We both let out a breath of hot air relieved to be in the warmth of the store. First, we went down the candy aisle grabbing : kit kats, skittles, jolly ranchers, starburst, mini chewy sweettarts, and twizzlers. Josh didn't stop at that, he turned the corner and grabbed some twinkies and some ding dongs, on the aisle over there were some liter sodas. I grabbed a sprite and Josh grabbed a Dr. Pepper. "What about some food?" I asked. "We'll order some pizza and wings ! Josh said happily. Pushing the buggie to the checkout, Josh passed me and helped me put the items on the conveyor belt and paid the cahier. After that, we headed home to relax and get ready for the evenings events.

I grabbed more bags than I could handle struggling to carry them all, then I dropped them all on the counter. "Do we dress up for the occasion or we just wear casual clothing?" I asked while arranging the items on the counter. "You can dress casual, It's just me, you and my mom," Josh assured me. "What kind of wings would you prefer mild or spicy?" Josh asked holding the phone up to his ear. "Mild," I stated. Forty-five minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Josh headed straight for the door and looked through the peephole. Pulling out his wallet, I assumed it was the wings and Pepperoni pizza. When Josh paid for the food, the guy left. "I hope you like Pepperoni! " "Yea, of course," I said.

There was shuffling at the door, and I turned to get a better look and a middle aged woman walked in. She looked just like Josh, "Hi, sweetie," she greeted her son. Then walked into the kitchen and greeted me. "Hi, its Riley, right?" She asked. "Yes ma'am," I said admiring her features she was beautiful."I'm Mrs. Mathews, but you can call me Camella. I'm sorry, I haven't been able to meet you, I've been so wrapped up in work," she went on and on. "No, it's ok. I'm thankful I made a good friend, " I said referring to her son." She smiled at me and helped me finish unloading the bags.

Everything was out of the bags and placed on the counter. "You guys wanna play charades?" Camella asked rubbing her hands together. We both said, "yes". An hour of charades and a laughing fit, we had worked up an appetite. Camella pulled out some plates and we all grabbed some pizza and wings, Josh poured all of us up some Dr. Pepper. We took the soda, we ate and looked for a movie watch. We couldn't decide on anything, so we played dominoes instead. When I got the hang of the game, couldn't nobody stop me. I was on the roll and didn't wanna stop. Playing for another half hour, we begin opening up the snacks to indulge in its sweetness. By the time it was time to see the lights, I was full and felt nauseous. "Are you ok?" Camella asked. "I just feel a little sick, I probably just ate too much," I explained. "Do you need some ginger ale to settle your stomach?" Camella asked. "No ma'am, I think I'm gonna be ok."

Camella, Josh, and I piled into her little Beatle and we drove off to see the lights. Josh sat in the back, so I wouldn't be lonely by myself. Josh looked at me with a face I could not read, which gave me butterflies. He inched his hand over to mine, then our hands intertwined. I felt a sense of warmth that I'd never felt before. Why do I feel this way, I thought. Looking out the window, there was a big house the lights were made into a Christmas tree and a wreath with red and green lights were on the door.

Passing up more and more house, we looked at them in awe. "Are you enjoying yourself?" Josh asked. "Yes, this is fun," I said smiling. Josh returned my smile with a peck on the lips. I looked at him like he had two heads, and I could see him fidgeting. So I had to say something, "Why did you do that?" I asked nervously. "I like you, and I would like if you um...he trailed off scratched the back of his neck. "If I...what?" I asked. "If you would be my girlfriend...he said hesitant. Immediately, I blushed, I didn't expect that. "Um, ok." Josh smiled brightly and I flicked him on the nose, teasingly.

We pulled up in the driveway, and we all got out the car. "Did you guys enjoy the lights?" Camella asked turning around facing us. "We both smiled at each other, and Camella looked back and forth between the two of us. "What am I missing?" She asked. Josh and I laughed and raised our intertwined hands. "Were together," we said almost at the same time. "Awww, that's so cute," Camella said. "Mom ! Josh said embarrassed. Yawning, I walked to my room and Josh followed. He stood in the doorway, and watched me get into bed. " Aren't you gonna go to bed?" I asked Josh realizing he was still there watching me. "Yes, I just wanted to see my beautiful girlfriend off to bed, goodnight." "Goodnight," I said blowing Josh a kiss.
