I woke up early the next morning, showered and started on my hair. Pinning my hair back on the left, then I let the other side fall down into curls. I was happy to see that my parents didn't make me return all my new clothes. I finished my hair and put on a blue strapless dress. When I walked into the living room my mom mouth fell open and she ran up to me with tears in her eyes.
"Oh dear, you look radiant ! She cried. "Mom, don't cry," I said wiping her tears away. "I'm sorry, its just nice to see that your maturing into a beautiful young woman," my mom weakly smiled. My dad walked over to me, "you look nice honey," he patted me on my back and gave me a peck on my forehead. We walked out the door and piled into the car.
"Don't forget, we are picking Josh up to come to church with us," I reminded my dad. He nodded and drove directly to Josh's house. Honked twice and we waited for him to come. When Josh came out, he looked handsome with his khaki slacks on and his plaid black and green shirt. Josh, finally decided to groom his hair, which made him look even better. "Good morning everyone," Josh greeted as he got in and closed the door.
"Good morning," we all said in unison. The drive to church was filled with silence, not the awkward silence just silence. Pulling into my dad's parking spot we all got out of the car. Josh gave me a nervous grin and I reached for his hands to let him know we were in this together. Walking into the church, there were plenty of people and children of all ages. Hand in hand we were complete. My mom took a seat at the front while my dad walked up to the podium to begin his sermon. Josh and I sat in the middle of the church. My dad started out with a prayer.
Heavenly Father, I would like to Thank You for bringing us out, today. We could have been anywhere else, but we chose to be here. Thank God that we your people are gathered here in your name. Bless this service, so that someone may be delivered. Someone maybe saved and set free. Bless someone if not all of us to get something out of the service. In Jesus mighty name, Amen.
We all said "Amen," in unison as my Dad begin the service. "Today, I will be coming from Romans chapter 10, verses 1-9. My Dad begin reading the scriptures and I followed along as well as Josh. When he came to verse nine, he read it twice. Finally, it came time for the call to Christ. "Will there be one? Anybody sick in there body? In need of a healing? Or maybe someone who just needs prayer over something in your life? By this time we were all standing. Little did I know Josh was crying, before I knew it he brushed passed me. Josh took a leap of faith and when he got up there my dad looked at him and asked; "Are you saved?
Josh looked at my Dad with tears streaming down his face and shook his head now. Then he read those Oh so familiar scriptures. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart that God has raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved.
- Romans 10:9 My dad led Josh through the sinners prayer and Josh was converted. It was like a big load had been taken off his back. Josh seemed happier with a smile on display.
Instead of going home, Josh stayed with us for the evening. "Are you ready for school tomorrow?" Josh asked. "Not really, I have been enjoying you and my family," I replied with a smile. Today, we plan on having a barbecue. My dad and Josh are outside on the grill cooking burgers and ribs. My mom and I are making the desert. We're having homemade rice crispy treats and cupcakes. "You guys ready to eat?" My dad said entering the kitchen with Josh close behind.
Outside, josh and my dad sat firewood on the ground making a fire. We all huddled around and ate. Smiling at each and everyone, I just sat back and took in the scenery. "What are you smiling so big for?" My dad asked. "Because, I have the greatest family and I wouldn't want nothing more or less. I blinked back my tears that I had been holding in.
Josh sensed me struggling to keep my tears in and walked over to me. He threw his arms around me in a protective manner and let me know that everything would be ok. "I know," I cried into his shoulder. My mom and Dad came over and joined us, we all stood there hugging for awhile. Apparently, we drew a attention to ourselves, cars started to drive by slow and peer out of the window. Some stopped and stared, but we waved them off. "We're just having a family moment," I shouted.
