* Months later * "Riley, are you ready we're gonna be late !" My dad shouted down the hall. "I'm coming." Graduation was a big thing, and neither one of my parents took it lightly. I had been running and primping like a chicken with its head cut off. My gown was nearly wrinkled at the bottom, by the time I headed to the living room.
"Hey honey, what took you so long?" My mom asked looking irritated. "I woke up late, sorry," I made a puppy dog face trying to get sympathy. I almost choked on my breakfast as fast as I was shoveling it into my mouth. "Slow down," my mom scolded. Soon as I finished breakfast, my mom and dad were out the door.
I ran to the bathroom to empty my bladder, when I finished washing my hands I hit the light and bolted out the door to the car. "Are you trying to be late on purpose?" My dad asked looking at me through the rear view mirror. "No, I had to use the bathroom," I replied. I played with the tassel on my graduation cap as my dad drove off.
"Riley Sanders ! I got up to walk across the stage. I couldn't describe the feeling. At first, I thought I was gonna trip, but I successfully made it to get my diploma. After shaking hands with one hand and grabbing my diploma with the other, I left the stage to go dit with the rest of my class. We listened to the principal give a speech and then she went to sit down.
" Class of 2012, stand ! All of us had huge smiles on our faces. Congratulations ! They had already warned us not to throw our caps up, after all this wasn't some movie. Though, I wish we could have threw our caps up, we didn't.
When my eyes landed on Josh, it was like we had an instant connection. We pushed and shoved through a crowd of people before reaching each other. Josh kissed me and swung me around. "Get a room," I heard a familiar voice laugh. "Oh my gosh, Amy," I threw my arms around her. All three of us took pictures until I saw my parents walk up to us.
"Mom and Dad this is Amy," I introduced them. "Hi," my parents greeted her. "So what are you guys getting into after this?" Amy asked looking between the two of us. We both shrugged. "I have no plans," I spoke up. "Well, you guys can come over to my graduation party, it could be for all of us," she said looking nervous since I hadn't said anything. Looking at my parents they both smiled and nodded yes. Jumping up and down, I hugged Amy and Josh.
My dad dropped my mom off, then took me to Amy's house. At the moment we were sitting outside Amy's house, I guess my dad wanted to give me some pep talk. "Riley, your practically an adult. You are capable of making your own decisions here on out and I trust you to make good choices," he forced a smile before hugging. It was a touchy speech, but it didn't seem like my dad wanted to let me go. "Dad," my voice was muffled. "Yea" "Your crushing me," I managed to get out. He let me go, "Go ahead , have a good time," he shooed me out.
Music was blasting as I made my way to the front door. Ringing the doorbell, not a minute later Amy welcomed me in. Her face was covered in cake and I looked at her expectantly. "Don't ask," she replied reading my facial expression. Josh hugged me and we walked into the kitchen. Sarah and Jennifer were taking selfies. "Come here Amy, take a pic with us! Sarah asked excitedly. Smiling like a Cheshire cat, I blinked a few times after the flash went off. We ate pizza rolls and cheesecake bites. Instead of drinking any punch, I settled for a bottle of water.
" Come dance with us !!Amy shouted over the music.
"Tonight's gonna be a good night, Tonight's gonna be a good good night.. No ceilings, woohoo !!
First, I danced with Amy and saved the last dance for Josh when a slow song came on. I smiled when my favorite dong by John Legend came on.
" I ran into you yesterday,
Memories rushed through my brain.
It started to hit me, now your not
with me, I realize I made a mistake.
I thought that I needed some space,
I just let love go to waste.
Its so crystal clear now, I need you
here now, gotta get you back today.
This time I want it all, This time I
want it all, showing you all the
cards. We swayed back and forth slowly to the music and Josh removed his head from the crook of my neck and looked in my eyes. With no hesitation, he kissed me and I kissed back with everything I had.
