SOMILA

After we were dropped off by Sam and Aya, we locked the gate and started walking towards the front doot. The lock on the gate suddenly made a loud noise behind us. The gate slightly moved which made the effect sound even louder. “WHAT THE FUCK SOMILA?” My worst nightmare came unexpectedly. . . Lizo. “Open this fucken gate!” he screamed as I turned around to face him. “She’s not opening the “fucken gate” so spare us the unnecessary drama and leave.” My sister fiercely commanded, but Lizo just banged on the gate louder and more aggressively.

“Open this gate Somila, don’t piss me off!” he looked so different, he seemed intoxicated, he must have been drinking as well… but his eyes looked different, they were wide open, pure white, with pupils so dilated that I could no longer see the chestnut in them. Just then, he jumped over the wall and bolted to stand in front of me.

“Why the fuck was he driving your car again? Why the hell was he dropping you off?” he gaped at me, scanning me from head to toe. “You slept there? You slept with him?” His hands fly over to his eyes, almost covering his entire face, then taking them away. “Is that his t-shirt you’re wearing?” His voice was lower, defeated even, but I didn't give a damn anymore. “Answer me!” He raised his voice again, his veins distinct on the sides of his temples, on his arms and hands. “Lizo you need to calm down and stop raising your voice at me.” He looked at me in disbelief,
“Calm down you say?”
“Yes that’s exactly what she said.” Tlhogi chimed in as Katli opened the front door. “You guys go in, I’ll be a minute.” I assured my sisters and they shut the door as they went inside.

“What do you want Lizo?” I was so sick of playing this break-up and make-up game with him. “I want you baby, I want us to fix our relationship.” He held my hands as he said this, and I felt nothing... absolutely nothing. “What relationship? There was never a relationship to begin with. You spent half of that so called “relationship” lying to me and cheating on me.” My anger was at the surface because I had gone over this a thousand times with him already, yet he still doesn’t seem to get it. “Your girlfriend is giving birth soon, you should be worried about things concerning your baby, not chasing around after me, harassing me
like this.” I removed my hands from his and his eyes went wider, his anger escalating again.

“You bitch! You get a taste of some rich dick and all of a sudden you think you’re better than us?” His left hand met with my right cheek causing a loud smack and a stinging, hot pain. His slap was so hard it sent me to the floor and I felt light-headed instantly. Seeing drops of blood on the floor, I realized that my nose was bleeding. “Shit no, look what you made me do!” he shouted. I got up and looked at him dead in his ghost eyes, “You will never touch me like that ever again.” I told him through gritted teeth. “I’m sorry baby, I didn’t mean for that to happen.” he reached to cup my face but I pulled away, just then my phone rang. I pulled it out of my pocket and saw that Aya’s contact had been saved. . . I don’t remember doing that.

I let it ring until it stopped then he called again, this had really done it. Lizo was erupting with rage as the ringtone continued without my answer. He took the phone from me. “This motherfucker calls you now?” his voice was loud yet breaking. “That’s none of your business. What I do with my life is none of your damn business.” I said as his free hand reached for my neck and he began choking me, closing my breathing pipes just as Tlhogi opened the door. “I’ve called the police!” she threw a glass at him and he let go of me, glaring at her angrily. He looked like an animal hunting for prey, just then we heard sirens from the distance, he ran towards the wall and jumped out, running without glancing back.

The police had arrived shortly after he ran away, we told them what happened with Lizo and they suggested that I go to the station to file a restraining order against him, which I promised to do when they left, and retreated to the house where I broke down in my room. Tlhogi had tried to comfort me but I wanted to be alone so I asked her to give me some space for a few hours. I fell asleep with thoughts of the police station and restraining orders.
