It was happening again. That feeling. That feeling in the pit of my stomach. It felt weird. My heart was hurting. Luke. That boy Luke. The blonde haired boy that would watch me every day. He was put into a room by himself. The door is labeled, *DANGER*. Luke is not danger. He is hurting. I hear him screaming. I hear him pounding on the cushioned walls and crying. It has been two hours. Emily is sitting outside his door crying. I am in the bathroom. Trying not to cry. I heard Luke shriek. Something inside me snapped. I ran from the bathroom and screamed to Luke. He cried and screamed. I ran to his room and banged on the door. Emily tried holding me back. Luke banged the door from the other side. Doctors and nurses pulled me away.
___________4 days later____________
All I can remember from a couple days ago is Luke and me screaming at each other. Not meanly, but because we needed each other.
Over the very little time I have spent with him I have come to like him more and more every second.
The nurses didnt put me in a room like with Luke. They just told me to stay away from him or we would be removed from the hospital. Even with the threat of being thrown out, during the nights I would visit Luke. I would steal paper from one of the nurses desks and a pen and we would write to each other. We would slip the piece of paper through a slot that they gave him his food through. We have been here for a week now. Ashton was still laying as still as ever. Even though I had not seen him by the way Emily reacted every time she left his room I knew he hadn't improved. I could hear her in his room at night. Begging, pleading, crying. Anything to try and get him to wake up
I ended my thoughts when I realized how long it had been since I saw Ash. I turned the hall and slowly opened his door. Right as I entered I noticed something different. The last time i saw him he was laying on his back, now he was laying on his side. He switched positions. I started to grin. I looked over at his heart rate that had now returned to normal. I yelled for a nurse. One came rushing in and asked what the problem was.
“You need to try and wake him.” I stated.
“Honey, I know you care, but we tr-”
“Do it now!” I interrupted.
She looked startled and called for other doctors. They rushed me out of the room. Right then Ashton sat up. Everyone froze. He looked towards me. A single tear fell from my eye. Some doctors started smiling and hugging me telling me they were happy for me. I stood, frozen. Emily ran into the room and shrieked at the sight of Ashton being awake.
“Ashy!!” she screamed, “I missed you!!”
No response. Emily repeated her words. After a short pause, he smiled. The smile on her face was priceless. The doctors checked him over and said he was okay to leave, but needed close watch. His parents said they wanted him to come home, but he refused and said he would come home soon, but he needed some time with Luke. After awhile of arguing they left in rage and told him to come back his stuff. He looked at them confused and they said to never come back. Ashton froze and looked at me. I walked over and gave him a hug. He left with his parents. While he was gone I talked to the doctors about releasing Luke.
“Well you see here he needs a parents signature to leave, we can’t just let a mental patient leave.”
“He doesn’t have family besides me and Emily here. He will be okay with us, please.” I pleaded.
“Okay, since on our records there is no parents of Luke Robert Hemmings, I believe you. Here are some meds that he needs to take whenever his depression comes back, but no less than two hours between each dose.”
“Wait, slow down, depression?” I questioned.
“Yes, Luke is suicidally depressed. I recommend going to a therapist.”
“How do you know hes depressed?” I wondered.
“Well first, he shows symptoms, also have you seen his wrists, covered in scars. He took a survey also and shows almost every sign of suicidal depression. How didn’t you know about this?”
“He always seemed happy I don’t know. Thank you doctor.”
He nodded and handed me a paper to sign. I signed my crummy signature and put Luke’s meds in his bag. I found Luke in his room and grabbed him by the hand.
“Let’s go Luke.” I said.
He smiled at me and I returned a slight smile. We walked out and saw Ashton sitting on a bench by Emily.
“Hey Ashton.” Luke said hesitantly.
Ashton looked up to a teary eyed Luke. He got up and wrapped his arms around him. Luke slowly put his arms around Ashton and squeezed him tightly.
“I missed you man.” Luke said into Ashtons shoulder.
“I missed you too.” Ashton said breaking the hug and looking into his eyes.
Luke was crying and smiling now and Ashton could not stop smiling. Everyone was okay for once and thats all I wanted since I got here. Emily jumped on Ashton’s back and we walked out into the cool September air.
