We arrived at some restaurant. I wasn't really paying attention due to the beautiful distraction beside me. Now I knew her name and I was talking to her. Me, Luke, me, Luke Hemmings. Talking to this amazing girl. Her laugh I swear was like an angel and her hair, it was soft looking and smelled amazing from what I could tell. Her eyes, they were an emerald green. So amazing, like a green ocean. They looked to go on forever and ever. They were so amazing. Filled with such happiness and positivity. Last was her smile. Oh my her smile. It was extraordinary. I believe it could cure cancer. Her smile made me happy. In that moment of causing her to smile I felt as if all the bad in my life was gone. What was so amazing is that, she made Emily smile and laugh. Seeing her laugh and enjoying herself was all I ever wanted. She never seemed truly happy. Even if she was ever with her friends and laughing along, it was fake. All of it. This, this was real, and I had never been happier. I wished it would be this way forever. That this moment would never end.
"Table for three, please." I said to the rather attractive woman behind the podium.
"Okay right this way." she said smirking at me.
We were seated at a booth. I sat alone and let Emily and Alice sit together.
"What can I get you guys for drinks?"
"Sprite." Emily and I said in sync.
We met eyes and smiled.
"I'll just have a water thank you." Alice said smiling at Emily.
The lady nodded and walked away.
"So Alice, where do you live around here?" I asked curiously.
"I live actually only down the street from here. About five minutes." she said looking towards me.
"Oh, you don't live far from where we live." I replied.
She nodded and started to look at the menu. I watched her scan the writing on the page. I noticed how thin she was. Her wrist was smaller than Emily's. Her collar bones were revealed greatly. It didn't bother me, but I was curious how someone could be so thin. I shrugged it off and grabbed a menu. I decided to just go for the chicken tenders that came with fries. I didn't like anything else. The waitress came back with drinks and asked to take our order. Emily went first.
"May I please have the chicken tenders with fries." I smirked at her.
She was just like me. The lady turned to Alice.
"Oh um, I will just have a salad please, italian dressing. Thank you." she said softly.
The waitress then turned to me and smiled.
"And for you blondie?" she smiled again.
I smiled and looked down.
"I will have the chicken tenders with fries. Thanks." I spoke.
She nodded and went back to place our orders. I turned back to Alice and caught her looking at me. She turned away quickly and started to blush. Emily smiled at me. I took a sip of my sprite and started talking to Emily.
"So Emily, how was school today?" I said sounding like her parent.
"Fun! The teacher really likes me." she said smiling.
I smiled and turned to look out the window. I saw a boy walking, carrying a couple grocery bags in his arms. He was covered in dirt and probably didn't smell to good either.
"So Luke, uhm, how old are you?" I heard a soft voice say.
I turned and saw Alice patiently waitinf for an answer.
"Oh, I'm 18, how old are you?" I said shocked that she had spoken.
"I'm 17, I turn 18 in another month." she said smiling.
I smiled.
"That's cool, so you were born in October or September?" I said realizing that it was the first day of September.
"October 14. " she said.
"Cool, what school do you go to?" I asked remembering that I wanted to know.
"Oh," she paused, "I.. I don't go to school." she said sadly.
"No worries, me either. "
"I dropped out because I wanted to be a singer, but I am too shy. I didn't really think it through." she said laughing alittle.
"I want to be a singer too! I love music and I love singing." I said smiling.
She laughed at my enthusiasm as the waitress came back and placed all our food on the table. Emily went straight for her fries, me doing the same thing. Alice ate slowly. She took her time. I finished my fries very quickly and started on the chicken tenders, dipping them in barbecue sauce. Yum.
Within 30 minutes we all finished and were stuffed. The waitress brought us the check and wrote her number on it as well. I figured I would keep it just in case I need her down the road. I paid the waitress and we got up to leave.
"How much do I owe you for my dinner?" Alice said softly.
"Nothing, its all good." I said smiling.
"But.. "
"Alice, its fine, really." I said and headed out if the restaurant following Emily.
She followed us out. I turned towards her wanting to say something, but nothing came out.
"Hey uhm, I don't think I got your guy's names." she said.
"I'm Emily!" Emily shouted.
I laughed, "I'm Luke."
"Okay well, thank you Luke and Emily for dinner, but I must be going, it was nice to meet you." she said the happiness draining from her eyes.
"Alice, do you really have to go?" I said.
She looked down and fumbled with her fingers. Emily tugged onto my shirt. I looked over to her and she hand motioned for me to bend down so she could whisper into my ear, I did.
"Tell her to come with us." she softly whispered.
"I don't know.." I said back.
"What is it?" Alice said.
"Come with us!" Emily almost shouted.
"I do not understand." Alice said confused.
"We kind of are runaways."
"Kind of? You can't be 'kind of runaways'. I can't believe I just spent a whole night with you. You could jump me." she said almost mad.
"Alice don't be upset. You can trust us. I would never hurt you. We are running away because my mother abuses us and we can't live there anymore. Emily just thought it would be fun if maybe you came with us." I said kindly.
"Where exactly are you going?" she questioned.
"I.."
"Thats what I thought." she interrupted.
"We are going to Ohio." Emily blurted.
"Did you know this Luke?"
"Yeah, yeah, you just cut me off before I could say it." I said quickly.
"Okay then, I'm in."
"Wait just like that?" I said.
"Yeah, we just need to stop at my house first." she said taking Emily's hand and starting to walk.
